We like to think of an overall treatment for a wedding versus a ‘theme’. Sometimes these treatments can be as subtle and abstract as use of ‘Art’ or ‘Light’. Other times we choose to use a great graphic element to pull a whole wedding together. For Samantha and Nate’s wedding we chose the fleur de lis.
In French, fleur de lis literally means “lily flower”. Decorative ornaments that resemble the fleur-de-lis have appeared in artwork from the earliest human civilizations, however, it is most associated with France. For us this was the perfect element to repeat through Sam and Nate’s vineyard wedding. Although, not in France the vineyard was based on a French Chateau, and the fleur de lis helped us express this overall feeling.
We incorporated the fleur de lis into several elements starting with the invitation itself. We had custom wax seals made and used them first on the invitation in various ways (affixed on the invitation itself and also on the cigar-box-style label of the wood box that was used for mailing). Now we included the seals on both the wine bottle favors as well as the wedding program.
The printed pieces also included the graphic and we even found wine corks that had a fleur de lis printed on them; which we used as little placecard holders.
Finally, we had a custom rubber stamp created in which we used embossing powder to create custom lanterns for the guests to use as the wedding couple departed at the end of the festivities.
Consider using the fleur de lis or other graphic element to pull your whole wedding together.
