Q: What does Lauren B Photography specialize in?
A: I photograph everything from weddings and events to newborn and kid portraits to corporate headshots and theater. I love the variety of these different disciplines!
Q: What makes Lauren B Photography stand out in terms of wedding photography options couples have in the Twin Cities area?
A: I use what I call “light direction” to make couples look both amazing and natural (they’re not mutually exclusive). I put the couple in good lighting and suggest flattering poses, bringing out the absolute best in each person and image. Also, my wedding collections have chapter-based coverage instead of hourly, so you know when coverage with start and stop, whether that’s six hours or eight. Finally, the collections take clients from start to finish, beginning with an engagement session and wrapping with a custom-designed fine art coffee table book.
Q: When and how did Lauren B Photography begin?
A: I knew I wanted to do photography for and with people and work for myself soon after college. I started building the business about 10 years ago! It’s absolutely what I should be doing and I’m so grateful!
Q: How are you able to show the personality and love between the couple through photography?
A: Laughing together is a major help! I have a plan and go with the flow, helping couples be comfortable in front of the camera. There are also some tips and tricks to “showing” the relationship in photographs: be closer together than you would naturally land, have hands and/or arms on or around each other versus hanging at your sides, things like that.
Q: What do you love about working in the wedding industry?
A: I love love love working with couples and documenting their relationship and personalities in photographs. I love making couples look both amazing and natural in their engagement and wedding images. I hope to build a relationship with my clients and instead of just being their wedding photographer, I love becoming their family and life photographer – it’s such an honor!
Q: What’s an average (wedding) day at like with Lauren B Photography?
A: We usually start with Getting Ready or First Sight and capture the day through the first few dances. My assistant and I guide the couple through their day and document each element: family and wedding party portraits, ceremony, cocktail hour, reception, and a finale with just the couple. We create a shotlist and schedule ahead of time to “Over-prepare, then go with the flow” on the wedding day. I’ve been told that I’m a force of calm on the wedding day, and am perfectly comfortable suggesting ideas and directing the couple as needed.
Q: What would you want a couple in the wedding planning process to know about choosing the perfect Wedding Photographer?
A: Choosing your photographer is an important decision, and I don’t take that lightly. Finding the right personal fit is key. You want someone you’ll enjoy spending time with, and who you can trust to be professional and deliver on their promises. Having top-notch photographs will help you remember and enhance your wedding experience. Investing in the right person is a decision you’ll be glad you made.
Q: Have you captured any unique weddings that stand out?
A: I love telling clients “There are no rules” – couples really can do whatever they want to make their day representative of their personalities and preferences. I love seeing the personal touches clients bring to their wedding day: paper cranes, taco bar, tennis shoes, funky socks, an Indiana Jones cake topper, paper flowers, the options are really endless here, and so fun! Aside from items, I love a day that fits the couple. I’m seeing a lot more small intimate events where just the couple’s innermost circle is present and many other elements fall by the wayside. But really, just have the wedding that work for you, and enjoy!
Q: Anything else you want couples to know about Lauren B Photography or about capturing their big day on camera?
A: My photography style is natural, unexpected, and artfully edgy. I’m more intentional than hands-off when working with couples, and want to bring out your absolute best in images. That said, the photojournalistic style is still happening all day long, preserving those natural moments and telling your story. Congrats on your wedding, and cheers to your marriage!
