From the Bachelor(ette) parties to the futuristic technology used at weddings today, its not surprising that saying “I Do” is a little harder on the pocketbook than it used to be. Leave it to the numbers to tell the story. 10 years ago couples were spending an average of $16,000 on the big day, which would typically include 110 guests. Today, couples are spending just under $30,000 with the average guest list size only growing by 14 guests.
The game changer is the personalization element that today’s couples have come to expect and desire. Couples want to differentiate their wedding from others. Today, nearly 50% of weddings have a theme (compared to only 17% 10 years ago). Other social media phenomena such as the personalized cocktail that one in four couples opt for quickly add to the final price tag.
Although weddings have become more extravagant and expensive, couples are still implementing many of the same traditions we have seem in the past. Certain traditions like the white dress and the cutting of the cake will never fade away.
