What if we told you there is a bakery awarded as a Food Network Cupcake Wars and Holiday Baking Championship winner, offers over 250 flavors of cake, and even offers edible cookie dough by the scoop…oh and did we mention they have TWO locations right here in the Twin Cities! Yes, all this is true, we are talking about Nadia Cakes! This custom cake studio and award-winning cupcake shop is sure to take the cake when it comes to choosing that perfect wedding dessert. For this week’s VOW, we got the sweet scoop from Erin, General Manager at Nadia Cakes Woodbury.
Q: What does Nadia Cakes Specialize in?
A: Nadia Cakes takes pride in being an industry-leading custom cake studio, and award-winning cupcake shop. Have you tried our Triple Berry Cheesecake? It is out of this world!
Q: How did Nadia Cakes start?
A: Nadia Cakes was started out of the home of Abby Jimenez in California. Her knack for custom cakes quickly grew into a demanding cake business, it rapidly became too much to manage out of a home and she had to open our very first location in Palmdale, California to keep up with demand in 2009.
Q: What makes Nadia Cakes stand out in terms of wedding dessert options?
A: We have an unrivaled devotion to making cakes that are above and beyond normal industry standards. Each bride receives a unique and custom to their event cake made in-house by our artistic cake designers.
Q: What are some unique dessert options or flavors you offer for weddings?
A: We offer full-size cakes in over 250 flavors, as well as small desserts, cupcakes, cookies, cakepops, and bars.
Q: What is an average day in your life like?
A: Wake up at 5:30, drink some coffee on the way to work and then hit the bakery floor running by 6 am. I usually bake until noon, then move on to emails and paperwork. Check on staff, and hop back onto the baking floor and work on small desserts, bars, or on a great day, cakes. I am usually home around 6 pm, I walk the pup, eat some dinner, work on a project and head to bed. It starts all over again in the morning, and I can’t wait! 🙂
Q: What would you want couples to know about choosing their perfect wedding day dessert option?
A: It is important for couples to know that the most important part about choosing your desserts, is remembering that your wedding day is about YOU! If you are Gluten Free, get a Gluten Free cake! It will still be delicious and you don’t have to worry about which piece is safe. You’re a big fan of Cookie Dough? Get all 4 tiers in cookie dough, you do not have to settle to please everyone, your day is about the two of you and your happiness.
Q: Do you have any memorable experiences working with couples that you could share with us?
A: We have had a plethora of couples walk through our doors, but the ones that really stick with us are the couples where both individuals engage at the tasting. They build this cake together step by step, and you can see the inner workings of their future marriage. The joy, the effort, and when necessary, the compromise. Those are the couples that leave a lasting impression.
Q: What is your favorite cake/cupcake flavor?
A: I am a sucker for anything with caramelized coconut and chocolate. Our German Chocolate cupcake is made with a from-scratch recipe frosting that will rival what grandma used to make.
Q: Anything else you want couples to know about Nadia Cakes?
A: We always want couples to feel comfortable and welcome at Nadia Cakes no matter your preferences, we love everyone! We also want our couples to know that even if you are a couple on a budget and you think that Nadia Cakes is out of the question, please let us know and we can usually steer you in a direction that will work within your budget.

Q: Can you tell us about your experience with the Food Network’s cupcake wars and Holiday Baking Championship?
A: The owner of Nadia Cakes, Abby Jimenez was on Cupcake Wars, and she went in knowing she had to win. The first time she appeared on Cupcake Wars she knew her recipes, decorations, and speed was enough to bring home the win. With enough hard work and pushing past the rough spots she succeeded and Nadia Cakes has never gone back. We use the original Award Winning Triple Berry Cheesecake recipe daily as that cupcake is always available. Holiday Baking Championship was one of the biggest highlights of my life so far. I got to meet like-minded people who are jolly and love the holidays and baking as much as I do! We are all still friends, and the opportunity to showcase my family’s traditions and my tasty desserts will always be something I cherish. It all goes to show that with enough hard work and dedication, absolutely anything is possible.
Q: Did someone say cookie dough!? Tell us about this new dessert option
A: We are now offering a full line of Cookie Doughs! We have both regular flavors and Gluten Free options. All stores carry Peanut Butter Reese’s, Chocolate Chip (also in GF), and Sprinkle Sugar Cookie (also in GF). Each store also has two to four additional chef special flavors that we make throughout the week. Next time you are at Nadia Cakes be sure to stop by to try a tasty scoop. You will not be disappointed.
