With their upbeat, fun personalities, amazing sense of humor and attention to detail, the dynamic duo Bjorn and Soren (brothers) of Northern Sound Entertainment are the perfect choice for your reception entertainment needs! This week, we spoke with the guys to learn everything you need to know about choosing the perfect wedding D.J.
Q: What does Northern Sound Entertainment specialize in?
A: At our core we are a DJ service but we think our customers will find we’re much more than that. We specialize in partnering with customers before, during, and after their event to make sure it goes as well as possible. We believe that customer service and flexibility are our number one priority.
Q: What makes Northern Sound Entertainment stand out compared to other wedding entertainment options couples have in the Twin Cities area?
A: Without a doubt, it’s our level of service. When customers contract with us we like to get to know them and hopefully we’ll be in their lives long after the wedding is over. If a customer contracts with another company, there’s no guarantee they will even meet their DJ until the day of the event. With us, there’s probably a decent chance you might end up at Bjorn’s house for breakfast or dinner!
Q: When and how did Northern Sound Entertainment begin?
A: Northern Sound began in late 2015 when Bjorn, one of the owners, kept getting requests to come and DJ weddings for friends and family. The idea to start a company was always there but it was our family and friend’s encouragement that was the tipping point. Bjorn purchased the company’s first DJ system, including all our music, and we were off to the races.
Q: How did you come up with the name Northern Sound?
A: Both of the owners who also happen to be brothers come from a Danish and Norwegian family. We’re both over 6’3” and we thought the name sounded very “Viking.”
Q: What’s an average (event or wedding) day like for Northern Sound Entertainment?
A: An average day usually starts pretty early. Bjorn usually goes and picks up Soren and we have breakfast. From there we like to load all our equipment up and head to the customer’s venue as soon as possible, usually by noon. It takes us about an hour to set up for a typical wedding reception. After that, we like to head home and do one final pre-check of the evening’s festivities before getting dressed and heading back to the venue. Most receptions include two hours of dinner music and a four hour dance. Once the dance is over, there are about thirty minutes of tear down and we head home. A typical day for us lasts about 10 hours.
Q: What would you want couples who are searching for the perfect entertainment experience for their wedding, rehearsal or other wedding-related events to know about Northern Sound Entertainment?
A: Picking a DJ is about finding a good fit for both the customer and the DJ Service. What we want customers to know about us is that we’ll never compromise on quality or our dedication to you personally if you choose to hire us. We will be with you before to plan, during to play, and after to make sure people get home safe. Our attention to detail will set us apart.
Q: Any advice for couples regarding choosing entertainment options for any part of their wedding celebration?
A: Our advice would be to plan the entertainment as early as possible. If you think about it, besides the officiant of the ceremony, the DJ will be leading things for a large part of the event. Getting together with your entertainment early and communicating with them often gives customers the chance to brainstorm and even make changes with time to spare. The devil is in the details.
Q: How far in advance should a couple book Northern Sound Entertainment?
A: Customers should look to book us as soon as they’re ready. We recommend you call us first and let’s have a good conversation about your event and see if we’re a good fit for each other. If you decide Northern Sound is right for you, we recommend you book us right away because our calendar is going to fill up fast in 2018.
Q: What do you like about working in the wedding industry?
A: The privilege to be invited to entertain a group of people on a very special day. We take our work very seriously because we believe our customers are worth it. There’s only one kind of memory we want to make with you, awesome ones!
Q: What is your hidden talent?
A: Bjorn’s hidden talent is German as a second language. He took it in high school and college as a second major. Soren’s special talent is fixing things like electronics, cars or mechanical components.
Q: What are your 3 “must have” songs for a wedding reception playlist?
A: Shout by Otis Day and The Knights, The Cha Cha slide, and I Gotta Feeling by the Black Eyed Peas.
Lightning Round questions:
Q: Describe yourself in three words:
A: Bjorn: Upbeat, Organized, Spontaneous. Soren: Patient, Considerate, Intelligent
Q: Chocolate or Vanilla?
A: Life is too short for just one, how about both and then maybe we put some raspberries and fudge on top!
Q: What’s your go-to comfort food?
A: Anything homemade at Bjorn’s house. Our go-to is German Oven Pancakes. Contact us for the recipe, you won’t be disappointed.
Q: What was the first concert you attended?
A: We went to the Metallica Summer Sanitarium concert together.
Q: What is your favorite board game?
A: Betrayal at House on The Hill. It’s like 50 games in one and we like to listen to creepy music when we play.
Q: Favorite music genre?
A: Bjorn: Hits of the 80s. Soren: Hip Hop and Country.
Q: Worst song to get stuck in your head?
A: Never Gonna Give You Up by Rick Astley. It’s like Rick-Rolling yourself…:).
