Q: What does GenerationNOW specialize in?

Q: What makes GenerationNOW stand out compared to other wedding entertainment options?
A: All GenNOW DJs are turntablists who can beat match, scratch and transition smoothly from song to song, creating packed dance floors start to finish. Unlike the competition, you can see your DJ perform prior to your wedding and have a relationship with them. All our DJ’s can be seen each week in a stadium/arena or nightclub performing their craft.
Q: When and how did GenerationNOW begin?
A: GenerationNOW began in 2010 with the leadership of Nicholas Dircz (DJ Mad Mardigan) & Ryan Kulka (DJ Velvet). Their vision was to hire the best DJ’s in the Twin Cities and bring the energy of a nightclub to the sophistication of a wedding/event.
We were tired of going to events and weddings where the DJ was unable to read the crowd, set the vibe in the room, and transition from song to song. We had the talent relationships but it took more than that to get a company in place. Our Team started with 2 DJ’s and now we have 16 performers and growing.
Q: How did you come up with the name “GenerationNOW”?
A: We wanted to speak to the Generation of today in our name. Music sets the tone at many events but specifically a wedding. We wanted our name to represent what clients today want NOW for their experience at their big event.
Q: What’s an average (event or wedding) day like for GenerationNOW?
A: We prepare our DJs and techs with a detailed schedule for the numerous events we have around town. Efficiency and Organization are keywords in our world. We work with our clients so we know where we are going, who we need to speak with and what time elements are happening during events. Often our event days are 12+ hour for DJs and techs. By the end of an event, we are filled with excitement and appreciation for the opportunity to perform in front of others.
Q: What would you want couples who are searching for the perfect entertainment experience for their wedding, rehearsal, or other wedding-related events to know about GenerationNOW?
A: Most of our clients want grandma and grandpa on the dance floor at 11:50 pm with all their friends. If the client puts the music and experience as a top priority, call us. Our clients come to us because they want a talented DJ who knows how to throw a PARTY…Period!
Q: Any advice for couples regarding choosing entertainment options for any part of their wedding celebration?
A: Start with your big picture goal and work from there. Many segments of a wedding day have music (ceremony, cocktail hour, dinner, and the dance are the main four). Customize them to speak to who you are as a couple. For example, if you love R&B music but realize most songs won’t work for the dance, play them for cocktail hour or dinner. You want to hear those but understand playing those during peak dance time may hinder the party. With us, you can always reach out to your DJ to discuss the best way to accomplish this.
Q: What kind of packages do you offer for weddings?
A: We have the most basic packages to the “Holy Cow this is our own private nightclub” Package. We customize to each specific client.
Q: How far in advance should a couple book GenerationNOW?
A: We are not only wedding DJ’s but also perform in sports arenas, nightclubs and other corporate events so our calendar can fill up well in advance. In general, a minimum of 6 -9 months is a good starting point, but even if your wedding is next month, call us.
Q: What do you like about working in the wedding industry?
A: We love the opportunity to talk about the FUN of the wedding… Music and dancing! All of us have such a connection with music, which is why we started the company in 2010. Each wedding has its own twist so it’s never monotonous. People love to dance and let loose and we get to be the conductors of the party. We love seeing multi-generations on the dance floor having a great time.
