One of Riviera Maya’s TOP excursion destinations
If you are looking for a travel adventure, look no further than XPLOR! Adventure Park! A short excursion on our recent trip to UNICO 20˚87˚ in Riviera Maya led The Wedding Guys’ team to this jungle adventure park with zip-lining, underground rivers, hand rafting, a water hammock swing, and finally a jungle vehicle ride. Our General Manager, Ellaina, gives us the rundown on this incredible excursion:
Hi, I’m Ellaina and I am the General Manager, here, at The Wedding Guys. This week as we share our travel experiences to UNICO, I am going to be sharing about our amazing off-property expereince at XPLOR! Adventure Park. It was my first time experiencing the park or anything like it, but it was a repeat visit for Matthew that he was excited to go back to!
The park is set up in a way where either you purchase a daytime or nighttime admission pass. We opted for the night experience with the park which opens at 5:30 pm. I highly recommend the night option for this outing, because you have some daylight hours, but then it cools off and makes the activities more enjoyable. It is a time commitment, so plan ahead. You will want to spend a minimum of 4-5 hours at the park to be able to experience it all.
We booked our experience directly through the tour specialists at UNICO which made it quick and easy. Between the park and the resort, our transportation was arranged, and we just had to show up – it doesn’t get much easier! There is a friendly guide that is assigned to each bus and gives a background on the park during the drive so you are ready to “hit the ground running” so to say. By purchasing admission through the hotel in advance, we also got to skip the line onsite to get to the fun faster.
The top two Xplor! Adventure Park highlights for me would be zip-lining and the river swim! We did the zip-line twice that night. It was our first activity when we arrived, and we were the first group out for the evening opening, which meant no lines to wait on. Confession: As a person who doesn’t like heights, I have to admit I was a little nervous, but wow once we got going it was an amazing experience! There are 8 zip lines total connecting the various activities across the park. It is beautiful to look around at the jungle below, other park features, and the ocean off in the distance as you fly through the air.
The zip-line experience ends by landing in the water with a big splash, so plan to get wet through all the activities! The first time was in the sunshine to see everything, and then we did the full zip-line again as our final activity. This time it was fully in the dark and it made it feel like a totally different experience from day to night. So glad I saw both! There are fun fire features below you, think giant bonfires, tiki torches and then one of the lines ends with going through a “ring of fire”. Fun fact, they have the option to go tandem, 2 people together on the same line, which would be a fun experience to have with your new husband/wife!
The river swim was another fun adventure that took us through underground caves. It was relaxing, refreshing on our rather burnt skin, and I was amazed at the inside of the caves. You descend into the depths to explore an underground world full of stalactites and stalagmites, that developed from years and years of dripping water. This section can be taken at your group’s own pace. It is termed as a swim, but you tend to float along.
We did many of the other experiences as well, and would recommend fully embracing them! The staff of the park was all very friendly and safety was a priority. Add this to your list of must-do’s on your next trip! Here are some takeaway tips to remember if you plan to go.
Final notes for Xplor! Adventure Park:
- Make sure to have water-friendly shoes, that are well attached to wear around the park, including the river swim.
- Not all bug spray/sunscreen is approved to wear to protect the environment
- Leave the camera in your locker (or back at the hotel) and purchase the photo pack for your group – worth the money to not have to worry about it and you have the option to retake photos as often as you wish.
- Be prepared to walk, walk, walk! It is a vacation work-out, that let’s be honest, is a contrast to the resort all-inclusive life, LOL.
- Embrace new experiences and HAVE FUN!
