Whether you and your groom are in agreement about your wedding cake or not, the groom’s cake is just that—for the groom! Let him have fun with it. Whether it’s about his passions, hobbies, or just a joke from his childhood, the groom’s cake is the perfect place for your man to put his stamp on this affair. (For grooms out there who could care less about the décor, the flowers, the fashions, or even the food, this is your chance to add your two cents Eat it up!)

EMBRACE A HOBBY
Love to golf? Consider a cake of your favorite par 3. Wish you were in a band? Have your baker make a cake of your favorite musical instrument. You can have a groom’s cake play off your hobbies and that can be anything from your weekly card game to bowling.
FIND YOUR PASSION
Always been a football fan? Super handy around the house? Whatever your passion, whether it’s sports, art, a favorite liquor, any of it can be made into a groom’s cake. This is also a great opportunity to use the hues the bride might not have wanted in the wedding color palette into your cake. (So if she doesn’t like purple, and you want a Vikings cake, we say go for it).
COMPROMISE WITH THINGS YOU BOTH LOVE
And like marriage itself, you can always compromise. Some people opt for a groom’s table filled with traditional cakes, flanked by dark liquors the groom loves, like this one from Café Latte.

No matter what, have fun with it. Stephanie Kissner, owner of Sweet Retreat enjoys the challenge, “I love working on Groom’s Cakes because they are so personal and unique. The theme or style is usually a bit less formal and tends to be more fun, connecting with the couple’s story in a fun way. They also usually let us get a bit more creative with flavors, straying from the standard wedding flavors that are more conservative. “
