Once you’ve gotten engaged and the wedding planning has begun, you need to add “shopping for wedding bands” to your list of to-dos. So where to start? And how do you pick a wedding band to go with an engagement ring? We spoke with Leanne Kolodziej, from Jewelry by Johan, for tips and ideas on how to find your perfect pairing.
CONSIDER COORDINATING YOUR RINGS
Style and personality definitely come into play when deciding on a wedding band style. “We generally try and pair styles, metals, and materials together. For example, if the engagement ring is white gold with diamonds, then we recommend a white gold wedding band with diamond accents and can craft a contour band that perfectly conforms to the engagement ring’s shape.” Says Leanne.
But, as with fashion, Leanne tells us trends are moving in a less matchy-matchy direction, “We’re seeing a growing trend in mixing of metals and simple, straight band pairings.”
COORDINATING WITH YOUR FIANCE
Another way to make your rings look cohesive is to coordinate with your fiance’s ring, but again, this comes down to personal preference, “We have couples who order identical bands in their respective sizes and others who get bands that have nothing in common but perfectly represent each of them as individuals. We’re seeing a growing trend of two bands being subtly coordinated. For example, a traditional rose gold bridal set is purchased with a men’s wedding band that is crafted with wood and also features a pinstripe of rose gold…perfectly tying their rings together.”
CURRENT TRENDS IN WEDDING BANDS
No matter what you do when choosing a wedding band to go with an engagement ring, you can’t go wrong. Just make sure you love it because you’ll have it for years to come. When it comes to Jewelry By Johan, certain materials are classics, and others are more up-and-coming, “Our authentic meteorite wedding bands for men and women, which are available in any metal, width, finish and profile, are by far the most popular! But aside from that, women looking for more traditional bands usually opt for an eternity or half-eternity band. A hot trend for men right now is black wedding bands, particularly black zirconium.”
And if you’re looking to budget for an engagement ring, here is some great advice from a credit company.
