A New and Different Bridal Fashion Week Spring 2020

Without a doubt, this spring was like none other we’ve had before in the bridal fashion world. With factories closed and most designers unable to finish their collections, and NYC in lockdown, there was a different Bridal Fashion Week. Instead, designers chose to present what they had to press and buyers via images. Some designers halted production altogether on their new designs and pivoted to help COVID 1st responders. And others will present new gowns at a later time, all of this creating a new and different bridal fashion week.

While a lot is uncertain, one thing is clear: no matter what, there are still creative people in our industry designing gorgeous gowns. We’ve gathered some of our favorite dresses (from Amsale, Justin Alexander, Savannah Miller just to name a few), tracked some trends, and want to show you some of what’s out there.  That way, when we’re all able to shop again, you can continue planning the day of your dreams and you’ll be informed of the fashion options out there.  So get inspired, and happy browsing!

Capes & Jackets

There were a lot of great looking cover ups in the few collections we’ve seen. From capes to jackets, all would be suitable for a more religious ceremony, where arms might need to be covered, or for a bride just looking for a different look from ceremony to reception.

NAKED LACE

You know that look where the lace just seems to be sitting right on the skin? There’s usually some tulle or very sheer fabric on which the lace is placed, often so invisible you only see the intricate (and beautiful) lace patterns. We’re calling this naked lace, and when done correctly, it’s absolutely stunning.

FRINGE

Though this year we saw a different bridal fashion week, the trends were aplenty. Some designers showed fringe details, from shorter to longer pieces. We think this bridal fashion detail is fun and for the carefree bride who’s looking for a gown with movement for the dance floor.

MINIMALISM

Many designers showed gowns with zero embellishment. No sparkle, no lace, no fanfare, but this doesn’t take away from the beauty of these modern and sophisticated gowns.

BIG BOWS ON BACK

And some gowns had little in the front but a lot in the back, with big contemporary bows that added a statement to otherwise unencumbered gowns.
