If you’re not the type of couple to get married in a church, you may want to consider hiring a professional officiant service. Marry Me in the Northland is a Minnesota-based wedding business ready to help couples curate a unique ceremony that feels authentic for them. We chatted with the founder, Annette, about how a Supreme Court ruling sparked her interest in starting her business.
GET TO KNOW MARRY ME IN THE NORTHLAND

Q: Let’s get to it, what’s your Marry Me in the Northland’s specialty?
A: Wedding Ceremonies!
Q: Where can we find you?
A: Duluth, MN, and the North Shore and anywhere our clients are
Q: Tell us when and how your business began.
A: The business began about 7 years ago – right after same-sex marriages were legal. My family and I were visiting a local Pride festival – they were having couples marry. There was road construction heading into Duluth and couples that were waiting to get married were kept waiting in what was a really warm day for Duluth. They announced over the speaker if there are any ministers or Officiants available that would be willing to help please do. I happen to walk by some “ministers” who said quite loudly that they would never do that type of ceremony. Well, that just got me all ticked off. You should be able to marry who you love regardless of who it is. It just blossomed from there.
Q: What makes Marry Me in the Northland unique from others?
A: We listen, we don’t judge, we absolutely adore weddings and we really want you to have it your way even if you don’t know what that is LOL
Q: How long have you been in the industry? What do you think has changed the most since then?
A: Almost 8 years. Couples wanting more choices and more input into their ceremonies.

Q: Walk us through your average day.
A: Check email, respond, chat with couples, take notes, send emails, follow up, send appropriate documents, put dates on the schedule, create ceremonies, send emails to confirm. Upload pics, update website, and have fun with new inquiries.
Q: What would you want couples searching for your business type to know?
A: We have a team of Officiants. We have backup coverage in case of a life event. We know what we are doing and love doing it. We are always searching for something new to add to a ceremony

Q: How far in advance should a couple book with you?
A: As soon as they are able to but ideally 3-5 months from your wedding date at the latest. Especially during the height of wedding season
Q: Where do you find inspiration?
A: The love and acceptance that couples have for each other.
Q: What are your other hobbies and passions when you’re not marrying couples?
A: Cooking, gardening, reading a good book, video chatting with grandkids and kids
LIGHTNING ROUND!
