There is something so intimate about the scenic shores of Lake Superior that makes it the perfect location for an up-north elopement or honeymoon. Bluefin Bay Family of Resorts has everything you need to plan your getaway including up-scale accommodations, restaurants, activities, and a variety of spaces to host your event. Discover more about this romantic property as we chat with the Assistant Grille and Events Manager, Tessa.

Q: Let’s get to it, what’s your business’ specialty?
A: Minnesota’s most romantic and renowned North Shore resort.
Q: Where can we find you?
A: Along the North Shore of Minnesota in Tofte!
Q: Tell us when and how Bluefin Bay began.
A: In September 1984, a 9-unit resort on the wild northern shores of Lake Superior opened its doors to the world. Since that day more than 30 years ago, Bluefin Bay has gone through some tremendous changes: the size of the original resort, the facilities, the recreational activities, and even the addition of two sister properties, Surfside and Temperance Landing. The original building no longer stands, but we were able to build upon its original foundation, making Bluefin Bay one of the closest properties to Lake Superior in the region.
Q: What makes Bluefin Bay unique from others?
A: We offer multiple upscale accommodations on-site! From lodging to restaurants, spa services, recreational activities, event/wedding spaces, we have it all. Everything is along the shores of Lake Superior creating breathtaking views and memories the entire time you’re with us.

Q: How long have you been in the industry? What do you think has changed the most since then?
A: 5 years. I think the trend of big weddings has changed the most, especially with Covid. More couples are looking to have intimate, private ceremonies with dinners rather than a large 200+ person wedding.
Q: Walk us through your average workday.
A: Typically, I arrive at work mid-morning and have some office time and meetings. If there is not an event happening I assist in managing the Bluefin Grille. Otherwise, on wedding and event days, my day is dedicated to them!
Q: What would you want couples searching for their wedding venue to know?
A: Remember that it’s your day! Choose the venue that works best for what your vision is and what you want your day to look like. At the end of everything, it’s your special day and you should do what makes you happy.

Q: How far in advance should a couple book with you?
A: Typically, I would say about a year in advance. Within the past year, I have put together weddings within a few months!
Q: What is the biggest crowd-pleaser at your venue?
A: Lake Superior!
Q: What are your other hobbies and passions besides creating beautiful wedding days?
A: Being outside! I love taking my dog for walks along Lake Superior, going snowboarding and spending quality time with friends and family.
Q: What is the history behind your venue?
A: Since its inception, Bluefin Bay Family of Resorts has been known as a romantic destination. We frequently hear from our guests that they were engaged here, honeymooned here, or were even married here, and return each year to celebrate that occasion or to share the fun with their families. It is our privilege to be that special place for so many happy couples.
LIGHTNING ROUND!
Q: What show are you binging right now?
A: Bridgerton. Have you heard the news for season two?!
Q: Gold or Silver?
A: Gold
Q: Black Tie or Casual?
A: Black Tie
Q: You’re at brunch. Are you going for something sweet or savory?
A: Sweet!
Q: Favorite board game?
A: Monopoly
Q: Mountains or Beach?
A: Beach
Q: If you could choose any celebrity to sit next to on a plane, who would it be?
A: Blake Lively
