Just like the variety of wedding gowns that are in the stores and on the fashion runways, there are many beautiful dresses out there for the mothers of the bride and groom. And many of the trends we’re seeing in bridal fashion are also crossing over to mother of the bride fashion trends. Here are the latest trends for mom (or mother-in-law!) we’re seeing because she needs to look great on your special day too.
Mother of the Bride Fashion Trend #1: Off-the-Shoulder
A huge trend that was on the recent bridal fashion runways, designers are all offering beautiful off-the-shoulder gowns in a variety of fabrics. And it’s not surprising that this trend spilled over to moms, because it’s a flattering neckline, no matter the age of the person wearing the gown. This Gracy Accad gown is regal and stunning.

MOB Fashion Trend #2: Hi-Low Hems
If your mom or mother-in-law to be has great legs, consider this style for her gown. A hi-low hem is fun, fashionable, and can be a tiny bit sexy too. In a variety of colors, fabrics, and patterns, the hi-low has been in bridal fashion for a while and isn’t going anywhere.
Nancy Shank, curator, and owner of dugo, which has a new location at 3935 Market St. in Edina, says she’s seeing the high-low hem within many collections. This Theia gown has a sexy V neckline without showing too much skin.

MOB Fashion Trend #3: Rose Gold
If you like the color of the Theia hi-low gown above, you’ll love this next trend. Just as the rose gold hue has exploded in popularity in jewelry, it’s also now a popular color in mother of the bride dresses. It’s soft and special and looks great on a variety of skin tones. Designers like Theia and Jana Ann Couture are just some of the designers making gowns in this complimentary color.

MOB Fashion Trend #4: Beading
Beading has always been popular in formal gowns, but maybe because some wedding gowns lack ornamentation these days, one mother of the bride fashion trend we’re seeing is an uptick in beaded gowns. Having the moms wear beading to stand out in a different way from the bride is a nice touch. These looks from BHLDN and Jana Ann Couture are very sophisticated.

MOB Fashion Trend #5: Jewel Tones
While the bride often (but not always) wears white, jewel tones are beautiful colors for the mother of the bride and groom to don. They are rich and really make a statement. Consider gowns in a deep emerald tone (BHLDN has pretty options), navy (like this one from Gracy Accad), and ruby red for colors that pop in pictures, but look naturally pretty on mature principals of the wedding.

MOB Fashion Trend #6: Floral Patterns
“Komarov has great examples of floral patterns available for spring/summer,” says Shank. Moms can have fun with their gowns with fun floral patterns in a variety of color palettes. Just remember to pick a style that works well for pictures because there will probably be a lot of photo ops, and you want to look at the pictures for years to come.
