When you are searching for an engagement ring for your partner, you want to shop at a place you trust! Arthur’s Jewelers has the expertise and selection — over 3000 rings! — to help you find exactly what you are looking for.
We talked to co-owner, Tyler Nogai, about how he and his family started the business over 30 years ago and have been leading the way ever since.
Q: Let’s get to it, what’s your business’ specialty?
A: We specialize in wedding bands and engagement rings. We have over 3,000 rings in stock. Most stores do not stock men’s wedding bands, they only have 50-60 choices, we have over 1,000. It is one of the 3 largest collections for men in the United States. Our collection of engagement rings and wedding bands for women is equal, and we have a CAD designer and team of goldsmiths in our store, so we specialize in customizing engagement rings and wedding bands. Also, people love the diamond value Arthur’s offers. They come in and compare lab-grown and mined diamonds, side by side. Customers can’t believe that they can get a diamond double the size for their budget with lab-grown diamonds. You can get an amazing quality 1.5-carat diamond for $4700. No one delivers diamond value like this.
Q: Where can we find you?
A: At our 12,000 square foot stand-alone store in Roseville, MN, On Lexington at Larpenteur, just North of Como Park.
Q: Tell us when and how Arthur’s Jewelers business began.
A: We opened our family jewelry business in October of 1987. I started the business with My Father, Mother, and Sister. Later my brother Carver also joined the business. My brother and I currently own the business together.
Q: What makes your company unique from others?
A: There are many things that we set to have the best and most consumer-friendly policies, trade-in programs, and warranties with no inspections ever! When it comes to wedding bands, you can’t see this many wedding bands anywhere else in the Twin Cities! There is not one store that comes close to the quantity of designs in stock, or showcasing the latest trends in wedding band designs for women, and having over 15 alternative metals and materials for men’s wedding bands. Stores that say on the radio they have the largest collection of men’s wedding bands in the state may only have 60-100 or 1 showcase of men’s wedding bands. Our men’s collection is one of the coolest in the nation, from classic to modern darker metals like gray gold, meteorite, tungsten, mixing antler or Dinosaur bone with black zirconium, and our new whiskey barrel-aged.
One unique feature guys love is called inner sleeves for wedding bands. Inner sleeves are making the inside of a wedding band different, with over 25 different colors, over 15 wood designs, 8 Damascus styles.
Q: How long have you been in the industry? What do you think has changed the most since then?
A: I have been in the jewelry industry since 1983. Technology has changed so much, now instead of just precious metals for men’s wedding bands, we have over 15 materials and metals we make men’s bands in today. It’s not just yellow, white and rose gold, or platinum anymore.
Q: Walk us through your average workday.
A: It starts early with answering customer’s online questions, live chat, or emails. Then at Arthur’s, we always set up the store as a team to start the day. It takes an hour to set up the store each day, at night all the jewelry has to go into the safe. While setting up, we talk about what is important for the day, training, or what’s important in our lives. We are very family-focused at Arthur’s Jewelers. We open at 11 am, and everyone is on the sales floor. This is the fun part of the day. Then I will work with vendors, searching for new trending designs, each week we have a different focus or category searching for new or top-selling designs. Then I will work on marketing for several hours each day, and growing the business, from writing radio ads, to display ads or Google Search ads. Then the last 2 hours of the day we are very busy waiting on clients. To end the day, we put away all the jewelry.
Q: How far in advance should a couple purchase their wedding rings?
A: They should purchase their wedding bands 6-9 months in advance. Most men’s rings need to be ordered in their finger size, so this alleviates any timing issues.
Q: What’s your favorite wedding jewelry trend lately?
A: Stacking or Tiara wedding bands for women. Whiskey Barrel-Aged wedding bands for men.
Q: What’s your best piece of advice for someone looking to purchase an engagement ring for their partner?
A: Ask questions, see if they have designs they have liked on Pinterest, and ask what their finger size is early in the process if you want to surprise them. Many couples come in together today, probably about 80-85% shop together. You can look at pictures, but until you try on rings, you can’t know which one is your favorite design. Many clients just love comparing the size difference of the diamond they can afford when they compare lab-grown diamonds and mined diamonds in our store.
LIGHTNING ROUND!
Q: Do you have any favorite podcasts or books?
A: Love & Respect by Dr. Emerson Eggerich’s. Great book, and easy insight on marriage. There are many podcasts I listen to depending on the season. During football season I do like Fantasy Football Weekly on KFAN.
Q: Who’s your most played artist on your streaming service?
A: Coldplay or Dua Lipa
Q: Mountains or Beach?
A: Beach for sure I love summer activities by the water.
Q: Go-to cocktail (or mocktail)?
A: Tito’s soda
Q: When you were little, what did you want to be when you grew up?
A: Believe it or not a hedge fund manager. Jewelry is much more fun.
Q: You’re at brunch. Are you going for something sweet or savory?
A: Savory is a must for me. Savory crepes are delicious, or eggs made anyway.
Q: Go-to comfort food?
A: Pizza especially Lake Harriet Pizza, the sauce is spicy and full of flavor.
Q: Duck Duck Grey Duck or Duck Duck Goose?
A: Grey Duck
