When you are looking for a DJ, it’s important to find a company that is passionate about making your wedding day perfect for you. Northern Sound Entertainment provides excellent service to their couples while offering a range of services. Get to know more about how they got their start in the business and what their favorite — and not-so-favorite — songs are to play at a wedding.
Q: Let’s get to it, what’s your business’ specialty?
A: We partner with newlyweds to provide DJs, photo booths, and videography for weddings. Getting to know our wedding couples is priority #1. By knowing the wedding couple, we can best tailor the experience for them and their wedding guests.
Q: Where can we find you?
A: Based out of White Bear Lake, MN. We service the Twin Cities and surrounding areas. We do a ton of weddings in the southern exurbs, western Wisconsin, and central Minnesota.
Q: Tell us when and how your business began.
A: Our owner, Bjorn Jensen, founded Northern Sound Entertainment 8 years ago. Prior to that, Bjorn has DJ’d hundreds of weddings independently and with Power Play DJ in Fargo, North Dakota.
Q: What makes your company unique from others?
A: People ALWAYS come first. That means partnering with couples, planning, and executing on their most important day. That also means ethically treating & paying our employees. Any business can make money. Our business makes money by putting what is important first: PEOPLE.
Q: How long have you been in the industry? What do you think has changed the most since then?
A: I’ve been DJ’ing weddings and hosting karaoke nights since 2017. Since COVID, weddings, in general, have become a sort of celebration of life and relationships. Everyone wants to socialize and celebrate. It’s something you can feel in the room.
Q: What would you want couples searching for your business type to know?
A: Choose vendors that you enjoy talking to and that instill confidence. Weddings can be a day filled with anxiety. Having positive, talented, hardworking, and trustworthy people by your side really makes everything easier.
Q: How far in advance should a couple book with you?
A: At least 6 months out. Engaged couples are booking wedding vendors sooner than ever. If you have your date and venue picked out, start booking your DJ, Photo Booth, and Videographer ASAP!
Q: What’s your favorite song to play at a wedding? Least favorite song?
A: Favorite to play: “Pony” by Ginuwine. Best played after 9PM when the children are home, and the adults are socially lubricated. Least Favorite: “I Loved Her First” by Heartland. Overplayed, sappy, awkward, and literally shows up as the first Google search for “Father/Daughter dance song”.
Q: What’s the most unique wedding you’ve ever DJ’d for?
A: Halloween/Pokémon-themed wedding at the Science Museum of Minnesota. That day totally didn’t feel like work at all 😊
Q: Any cool first dance stories?
A: Whenever the newlyweds want to do a medley or a combination of songs. Breaking out into a choreographed dance number after a slow song always gets guests cheering.
LIGHTNING ROUND!
Q: Do you have any favorite podcasts?
A: No podcasts, but I do enjoy Audible. Books on tape are amazing!
Q: Who’s your most played artist on your streaming service?
A: Jay-Z and The Strokes
Q: Heels or flats?
A: I’m a man and a feminist. Heels are oppression! Flats for president!
Q: Favorite place you’ve traveled to?
A: Paris, France.
Q: Go-to cocktail (or mocktail)?
A: Shirley Temple. I’m a lightweight.
Q: When you were little, what did you want to be when you grew up?
A: A Meteorologist. Some kids like dinosaurs. I liked the weather.
Q: You’re at brunch. Are you going for something sweet or savory?
A: Sweet!
Q: Go-to comfort food?
A: Chinese food. Sesame Chicken for sure.
Q: Duck Duck Grey Duck or Duck Duck Goose?
A: Grey Duck
