Each year, The Wedding Guys team gets together and brainstorms on spectacular giveaways for engaged couples like a honeymoon giveaway, Aruba Destination Wedding, or a $25K lottery. This year, we launched the $10K Wedding Giveaway where one lucky Midwest couple to use however they choose for their wedding day. We held a random drawing and one lucky couple from South Saint Paul received the call of a lifetime. Leah and Brandon were ecstatic to discover they would have an extra $10K to use for their October 2023 wedding and wasted no time deciding how to use it. Meet this future bride and groom below and find out what they plan to splurge on!
From the night they met at a Kesha concert at the University of Minnesota in October 2016, Leah and Brandon both felt a special spark. “I came in late with my friends and we happened to find seats behind Brandon and his friends. We were covered in glitter (because Kesha, duh!) and one of the guys asked if we had some to spare. As I started sharing the glitter, my roommate said ‘Hi, Brandon!’ because she knew him from a class. One thing led to another and we hit it off right away. I was the one who asked for his number,” says Leah. “A beautiful, crazy, partially shaved head girl asks for your number after singing all of the hits from Kesha together — how could she not be ‘The One’? For me, something always did feel right even from the night we met,” echos Brandon.
Both agree this was a moment of significant connection, but the night Brandon sealed the deal for Leah was when he showed up at her door with her favorite bottle of wine on Christmas Day. For the future groom, he recalls a specific moment when he knew he wanted to spend his life with her, “If I had to pinpoint a moment where I realized, it would have been during one of her performances and she looked up at me way in the nosebleeds of the theater while singing a cover of Elvis Presley’s ‘Can’t Help Falling in Love’.”
On December 11, 2021, Brandon planned a romantic surprise for Leah at Sam’s Christmas Village in Wisconsin, “It had just snowed the night before so it was totally picture perfect — and I was clueless that it was going to happen,” Leah recalls. “Our friends helped set it up, including coordinating the plans with me instead of Brandon to seem less suspicious. We walked around the light show and took a few photos, and he waited until the very end to do it!”
The couple is planning a Fall 2023 wedding exactly seven years after the Kesha show where they first met. They chose Earl & Wilson, an industrial and historic venue in St. Paul, to host their ceremony and reception. For the vibe, the future bride says they are going for “some classic sophistication with a touch of glam — think Champagne and Disco Balls.” The most exciting part about planning, they say, is that they just want everyone to have a good time and they are looking forward to curating that feeling. “We are still over a year out from our big day, but our vision will definitely be carried through all of our events leading up to it!” Leah explains.

When Matthew gave the couple the good news, Leah immediately knew what she wanted to splurge on, “We want to max out our dance floor with a disco ball installation and upgrade our DJ to keep the floor full all night long!”
