You may have met Rheo of The Beats Boutique at Twin Cities Bridal Show, but did you know that he has over 20 years of experience DJing? Get to know more about what sets his business apart and how he’ll set the perfect tone for your wedding day.
Q: Let’s get to it, what’s your business’ specialty?
A: I’m a tone setter and musical vibes creator for weddings and private events.
Q: Where can we find you?
A: I work from home in Blaine.
Q: Tell us when and how your business began.
A: Oct 2021, I was called in to cover a wedding because the DJ never showed. The disappointment I felt for the bride, and anger at the company that ruined her day, set me out on a path to do it a better way.
Q: What makes your company unique from others?
A: There isn’t a DJ in town that can match my authenticity, experience, energy, and passion for weddings. I’m the only DJ with a clause in my contract guaranteeing my performance 100%…. If you’re not happy, don’t pay me! My timeline and music planning are fun and easy via the VIBO 2.0 app for Apple or Android, and my equipment is the cleanest set-up in Minnesota!
Q: How long have you been in the industry? What do you think has changed the most since then?
A: I’ve been a wedding professional since May of 2000, and the biggest change is that the modern couple is prioritizing their guest’s entertainment experience, and not picking their DJ last anymore.
Q: What would you want couples searching for your business type to know?
A: That if you can’t meet the person who will actually be your DJ 12-18 months from now, don’t sign a contract!
Q: How far in advance should a couple book with you?
A: 18 months, or as soon as you lock down your venue! A great DJ, photographer, planner, and venue all have the same thing in common… There is only one of us!
Q: What’s your favorite song to play at a wedding? Least favorite song?
A: My favorite is “I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me)”, and I loathe “The Electric Slide”…. How do people still know that dance!?
Q: What’s the most unique wedding you’ve ever DJ’d for?
A: The bride rode a pink elephant to meet her father before he walked her down the aisle. The whole night was opulence, I hate to use the word “magical” but it was.
Q: Any cool first dance stories?
A: The groom was a wheelchair-bound United States Marine, and his groomsmen lifted him up high enough to spin his wife on the dance floor. It was special and having worn the same uniform, recalling this memory still chokes me up.
LIGHTNING ROUND!
Q: Do you have any favorite podcasts?
A: Dude Grows Show
Q: Who’s your most played artist on your streaming service?
A: It’s a close tie between Nas and Deftones.
Q: Heels or flats?
A: What would Prince wear?
Q: Favorite place you’ve traveled to?
A: Okinawa, Japan
Q: Go-to cocktail (or mocktail)?
A: I always love a good Delta-9.
Q: When you were little, what did you want to be when you grew up?
A: A professional soccer player.
Q: You’re at brunch. Are you going for something sweet or savory?
A: Savory.
Q: Go-to comfort food?
A: Hershey’s Chocolate flavored Twizzlers.
Q: Duck Duck Grey Duck or Duck Duck Goose?
A: Duck Duck Grey Duck
