High School sweethearts Justin and Bri met in their high school biology lab, and that’s where the made-for-movie romance began. Bri, the creative type, a hairstylist specializing in wedding hair, and Justin the business type working in steel sales perfectly complement each other. Justin’s goofy and laid back personality accompanies Bri’s detail oriented style. Both Bri and Justin grew up in the Twin Cities and have been together for almost 7 years now. They enjoy an adventurous lifestyle spending time outdoors, especially with their two dogs!
Justin proposed in February 2015 and the wedding planning process started immediately after that, actually Bri admits there were a few things in the works before he officially popped the question! Their “Woodsy Christmas Glam” wedding took place on December 5th 2015. The ceremony was held at the Nazareth Chapel at University of Northwestern St. Paul, and the celebration continued at the Silverwood Park in St. Anthony. The couple knew they wanted a traditional church ceremony from the start. Justin attended school at Northwestern so the couple spent a lot of time their and the chapel is beautiful so the choice was easy! Next on the list was finding the perfect reception location to continue the winter wonderland wedding. The Silverwood Park is only a few minutes away from the chapel and the location includes a large fireplace on the patio overlooking the lake, perfect for their winter wedding dream! The wooded scenery surrounding the reception location looked picture-perfect with the winter dusting of snow.
The wedding vision evolved as the planning process unfolded. The final inspiration for the big day featured elements of old Hollywood glam mixed with woodsy Christmas décor and greenery. The couple loves nature and wanted to feature some rustic elements, utilizing the natural beauty of their location. At the same time, Bri didn’t want to give up any formality or the opportunity for glitz and glam that a winter wedding date offers. At first the couple was worried these two visions wouldn’t complement each other, but in the end it came together and worked beautifully!
When it came time to say yes to a dress Bri was certain she had the style set in stone. Once she began trying on gowns her vision completely changed. Before her second trip to the salon she decided to spend more time looking online to open her eyes to different shapes and styles she might like. The bride fell in love with a fully beaded Art Deco style gown with a deep cut open back by Essence of Australia she found while browsing online. When she discovered that same gown at Raffine Bridal she slipped it on and immediately knew it was the one!
Bri thought long and hard about what her bridesmaids would wear on the big day. She wanted to find something that would stand out and represent the Christmas Glam feeling without breaking the bank. She took input from her bridesmaids and agreed on really fun Essence of Australia gold sequin gowns from Raffine Bridal, it doesn’t get much better for a Christmas glam wedding! The wedding colors featured on the day were gold and navy with accents of wine/burgundy. Bri decided to dress her junior bridesmaids in wine colored Bill Levkoff gowns that perfectly completed the rich winter color scheme.
The groom and groomsmen wore navy tuxes with navy vests from Savvi Formalwear. Justin stood out wearing a gold and white striped bow tie while the groomsmen wore gold ties. All the men wore brown shoes that accompanied their navy tuxes.
Bri walked down the aisle at the beautiful Nazareth Chapel to an instrumental version of How Long Will I love You by Ellie Goulding. After the couple said their “I Dos” and sealed it with a kiss, they moved the celebration to St. Anthony where guests were wined and dined with chicken and prime rib options served with potatoes and vegetables. Guests satisfied their sweet tooth with two different cake options from Buttercream, one a strawberry lemon and the other a chocolate baileys, perfect for the December evening. Guests were also able to indulge in an adorable hot chocolate bar! Tables were dressed with beautiful florals featuring roses, hydrangeas and lots of greenery. Gold elements such as golden branches added to the glam feeling in the room. Bri and Justin took the floor for their first dance to Forever Like That by Ben Rector.
If we have ever seen a DIY masterpiece this winter wedding might be it! Bri and her mom utilized all their creative talents in the brainstorming and execution of many gorgeous features for the big day. They did most of the décor on their own. Bri’s favorite project was an archway of branches covered in lights with mistletoe hanging in the center. Guests loved using this area for photo ops. They also refinished a couch with navy fabric to use for photos as well as a seating option by the outdoor fireplace at the reception. Bri and her mom had fun experimenting and crafting the perfect centerpieces and large bouquet for the romantic winter event.
Bri and Justin’s favorite moment of the wedding day was enjoying their first meal as a married couple together, surrounded by those who are most important to them. They were able to look around the room in awe seeing how every last detail and months of planning came together even better than they imagined. Their advice for couples in the midst of planning is to cross off as many of the little things on your list right away because the day sneaks up too quickly and you don’t want to run out of time for the details. They were able to enjoy every second of the planning process by staying organized and having fun with it!
