Anne Barge began her company in January of 1999. From the start, her designs have been known for the combination of timeless elegance and up-to-date trendiness. She prides herself on designing gowns that perfectly blend contemporary and classic style while using the best materials she can get her hands on. The gowns often feature beautiful beading and embellishments that emulate a vintage couture design. To ensure a bride gets exactly what she has dreamt for her wedding day, she has three distinct collections- Anne Barge Couture, Black Label and Blue Willow Bride. Anne’s design philosophy is simple; “good design is timeless” and we believe she has done a fabulous job of turning our favorite trends into timeless masterpieces.
Over many years Anne Barge has become known for her sophisticated designs. Her gowns are perfectly suited for the completely stylized bride; she always designs suitably. With the forever changing landscape in bridal fashion over the years, Anne has always risen to the pinnacle of bridal fashion no matter what the challenge. This season’s designs showcase the increasing silhouette for revealing illusion gowns. Anne’s Fall 2017 collection takes a nod form the glamorous Ziegfeld Follies girls as her inspiration, saying that though they were skimpily attired, they retained some “ladylike refinement” a style forever embraced by Anne Barge.
Elegance and glamour, in a time-honored vision, is Anne’s answer to today’s mirage silhouettes. Anne’s collection showcases ethereal styles, allowing brides the opportunity to be fashion forward while remaining traditional. Known for her regal ball gown, this collection offered a lacy top and voluminous skirt keeping in line with new bridal fashion trends. As an alternative one can use a shorter skirt for the reception or dance. Always a southern lady, Anne is pure bridal in fashion design no matter what the trend. Her finale gown echoed this with her gorgeous ball gown of class and refinement.

We haven’t forgotten about the men that are so very important on your wedding day! This week we spoke with the owner of Savvi Formalwear, about the latest menswear trends for weddings. Savvi offers the perfect look for the men’s big day, weather the style is black tie elegance or relaxed rustic trends, Savvi and their expert staff with work with you and your wedding party to create the perfect look!
Q: What does Savvi specialize in?
A: Savvi Formalwear specializes in helping wedding couples make informed decisions about what the perfect tuxedo or suit style and accessories are for their wedding day. Every wedding is a puzzle with many pieces, and we want your formalwear to fit in seamlessly with the rest of your event.
Q: How and when was Savvi created?
A: We opened our first store at Southdale Shopping Center in 1972, as part of the Gingiss Formalwear franchise system. In 2004, we changed our name and joined with a band of the nation’s leading independent formalwear specialist to form Savvi Formalwear.
Q: Where are you located?
A: In the Twin Cities, Savvi currently has 10 locations for the convenience of our customers: Southdale Center, Rosedale Center, Ridgedale Center, Maplewood Mall, Burnsville Center, the Shoppes at Arbor Lakes, Woodbury Village, Eagan Promenade, Northtown Center, and at Angelique’s Bridal in Blaine. With our extended network, Savvi has hundreds of locations across North America forming a comprehensive fitting network for your wedding party.
Q: What is your favorite part about working in the wedding industry?
A: Weddings are happy times. It is a pleasure to work with couples in the process of planning one of the biggest days in their life. We love getting to play a part in coordinating the perfect look and working with other Twin City professionals to make a couple’s dreams come true.
Q: Do you have any fun or memorable stories working with grooms or groomsmen?
A: Our Woodbury location was recently contacted by a groom in a panic. It seems that he had made arrangements for his wedding party to be outfitted by a business in a nearby town, only to discover that the business abruptly closed the week of his wedding. He contacted our store manager who worked quickly to coordinate the perfect look for their wedding party; we measured the members of the wedding party and delivered the tuxedos without incident two days prior to the wedding. Crisis averted!
In another instance, our Burnsville location received an inquiry for a specific “look” that a groom had in mind for his wedding party. Our manager encouraged him to stop in for a complimentary “Groom’s Preview,” to see the specific style on himself. He liked the tuxedo selection, but was determined to locate a unique bow tie. After an exhausting search, he ultimately decided on our manager’s initial suggestion as the perfect look. After this entire process, the groom was convinced he was on a first name basis with our entire Burnsville staff. And our manager and her husband were invited to the wedding!
Q: When should grooms and groomsmen commit to their wedding day fashion?
A: It is never too early to start the planning process. Once the bride has selected her gown and those of her bridesmaids, we can add to the process of building your wedding day story. The first steps commonly involve a consultation with the wedding couple to define the formalwear needs for the people in the party. Once the wedding is registered, we encourage the attendants to be fitted within the next thirty days. Our system minimizes this responsibility by allowing an automated email reminder to those who have yet to be fitted.
Q: What do you think the groom should wear to the rehearsal dinner?
A: The theme that the couple has selected for their wedding will set the stage for the entire event. If the event is more formal then a contemporary, slim-fit suit on the night of the rehearsal is wonderfully appropriate. On the other hand, if the tone for the day is more laid back and casual, the groom may feel more comfortable in dress jeans and an open-collar shirt.
Q: What designers/brands do you carry?
A: We are proud to offer the largest selection of Michael Kors Formalwear in the Midwest. In addition, we also offer a fantastic selection of formalwear from Allure Men, Ike Behar and our own Savvi Black Label Collection. Each of these collections offers contemporary styling in either slim or modern fit.
At Savvi, our most popular garments are in the Michael Kors Collection, featuring tremendous option in Midnight Blue, Charcoal Grey, Chrome and Classic Black. All of our Michael Kors models are available in both slim fit and modern fit, offering the perfect silhouette for every member of your wedding party.
Q: What are some options the groom and groomsmen have when shopping at Savvi?
A: Today’s wedding parties are considering a wide range of styling for the guys in their wedding party. Everything from “Modern Classic Elegance,” translated as a black tie tuxedo with a bow tie to “Rustic,” featuring a tweed vest and less formal attire. Savvi offers a complete selection of both tuxedos and dress suits in today’s slim and modern fit styling, with options for both rental and purchase. Our staff regularly meets with wedding couples to determine the best alternatives for their wedding party. And, yes, we even offer tweed vests!
Q: How do you determine what accessories such as ties and pocket squares work well with a specific suit/tux?
A: Today’s accessories introduce a wide-array of styles and patterns. The three-piece look (meaning the vest matches the coat and trousers) in tuxedos and suits is definitely in fashion. Today we frequently coordinate the neckwear and pocket square with the dresses and other colors for the wedding. To reflect their personal taste, wedding couples can select from solids, stripes, plaids, even polka dots, when settling on a look for the guys.
Q: Anything else you would like grooms to know about Savvi?
A: At Savvi, we place a great deal of importance on the final fitting. We encourage each member of your wedding party to pick-up their own ensemble. At that time, we have each attendant try on their entire outfit and our staff is trained to make certain that everyone has the proper fitting garment. This final fitting ensures that each person in your wedding party look their absolute best on your wedding day!
Savvi Lightning round Questions:
Q: Describe Savvi in three words.
A: Accommodating, fashionable and classic
Q: IPA or EPA?
A: Summit Extra Pale Ale gets our vote!
Q: Suit or Tux?
A: We watch fashion trends move in cycles. Over the last several years there has been an increased interest in dress suits for wedding attire. As a result, Savvi offers a complete complement of suits for both rental and purchase. However, according to the pundits, the expected trend for 2017 is “Classic Elegance.” This trend is evidenced in some of the wedding gown designs for the coming year. As a result, we are expecting increased interest in men’s formalwear options with limited amounts of satin trim; often in alternative shades like Midnight Blue, Charcoal Gray, or Chrome.
Q: Black, gray or navy?
A: Shades of gray continues to dominate as the most popular color for today’s wedding parties. Savvi offers a wide variety of shades from light heather gray to the deepest of charcoal. These neutral shades are sure to compliment most every wedding party. The more avant-garde are sure to gravitate to midnight blue. This rich contrast highlights a beautiful champagne wedding gown and pastel shades of bridesmaids gowns.
Q: Tie or Bow Tie?
A: Personal preference dictates, but the resurgence of the bow tie is all the rage today in fashion. Whether with tuxedos or suits, the bow makes a statement about the wearer’s personality. Patterns and colors abound to help reflect the color theme for your wedding party.
Q: What’s your go-to comfort food?
A: A trip to Chipotle never disappoints!
Q: If Savvi could dress a celebrity client for their wedding, who would it be?
A: Zac Efron
The New York based designer Michael Kors is one of the most well known American sportswear fashion designers. Kors’ commitment to fashion and design started when he was very young. His mother was a model, so he was frequently exposed to the apparel industry as a child. At the age of 5 he re-designed his mother’s wedding gown for her second marriage. In his teen years, he started his own mini-business designing clothes and selling them out of his parent’s basement. In 1997 he enrolled at the Fashion Institute of Technology in NYC. In 1981 he officially launched the Michael Kors womenswear line at Bloomingdales, Bergdorf Goodman, Lord & Taylor, Neiman Marcus and Saks Fifth Avenue. Since then, he has taken the world by storm with his womenswear, accessories and menswear lines.
It is obvious that the Michael Kors label has long been successful in the world of fashion. In 2014, Kors launched into the wonderful world of men’s formalwear. He first created two debut lines of tuxedos that matched the fashion-forward vision and elegance that Michael Kors has showcased in other genres of fashion. The designs feature modern fits, satin besom pockets, satin trim options, side vents, and luxury fabrics such as the Super 130’s Venetian Wool. The Michal Kors Tuxedos have been incredibly successful, quickly becoming one of the top choices for grooms and groomsmen everywhere. Michael Kors also offers a wide variety of designer suits as another great option for the groom’s wedding day style.
The blushing bride will debut the look she has been perfectly crafting for months as she takes those first few steps down the aisle. We can’t forget about the other half though; the groom has a duty to make the first impression of style on the big day. You should take this as an opportunity to look your absolute best, because after all this is your big day too!
Suit or Tux?
You and your bride have most likely settled on a style for the wedding date. The first step in choosing your wedding day attire is to consider the formality and style of your event. Will you wear a tux or a suit? There are tons of options, even more than you would think, for all the men involved in the big day. Ask yourself how formal you want your day to be… is it a black tie event, or a rustic outdoor theme? For a formal wedding, a classic wedding tux is always the right choice, but as weddings become more casual you might want to play around with the idea of wedding suits.
To buy or to rent?
If your wedding is going to be a formal affair and a tux is your choice, you have to make a choice…to rent or to buy? Unless you attend three to four formal events a year we recommend taking the renting route. If you’ve decided that a suit will be the way to go on your wedding day you can also choose to rent for the special occasion but toss around the idea of investing in a nice custom suit that is perfect for you and the big day. Creating a custom suit allows experts to hand pick fabrics and design a look tailored to your specific needs. Many of these pieces are made-to-order or made-to-measure and unique to you!
How do I personalize my look?
This is a question you’ll most likely be asking if you choose the renting route. Don’t worry! Even if you choose to rent for this occasion you have plenty of options to make this wedding day look perfectly unique! Patterned suits, colored cummerbunds, fun cufflinks, trendy socks, a great pair of shoes, patterned bow ties and pocket squares are just a few ways the groom can get creative when planning out his perfect style debut down the aisle.
Should I match my groomsmen?
This is a question of personal preference and it is completely acceptable to take either side on this question. Keep in mind that matching and coordinating are two different ideas, coordinating with your groomsmen is a must, but matching is a preference. If you want all the men to look clean and uniform you may opt for the groomsmen to order or rent the same ensemble as the groom. But keep in mind that it is okay to be the center of attention (or at least come in second behind your bride) on the big day. You can altar your groomsmen look by having them wear a different style or patterned tie, a vest instead of cummerbunds or even go as far as dressing them in a different colored tux or suite that complements your own, again, the options are endless!
Happy thanksgiving to all of our happy couples! We know that as you sit down for turkey dinner this week, it might be hard to leave all the stress about your upcoming wedding at the door, but this holiday season we urge you to remember all the wonderful things to be thankful for during this crazy process we call wedding planning.
1) Your Wedding Party! If you haven’t already asked these important people members to be a very important part of the big day, the holiday season might be the perfect time! Remind them of how thankful you are to have them in your life, and how they have played a role in your happy relationship. These are the people that will keep you sane during the wedding planning craziness, so they are definitely topping our list for things to be thankful for while wedding planning!
2) Your Family! Let’s be honest… your family members are the ones who you let your guard down with, for better or for worse. Your family may need an extra dose of thanks this holiday season. There are many reasons to be thankful for your family during the wedding planning process. From wise words, time spent, distance traveled, and financial help, your family truly has your back when it comes to planning a wedding.
3) Your Vendors! We work with some of the most talented vendors not only in the Twin Cities but also in the country, so they are definitely something to be thankful for. As you dive into the planning process you will notice that some of your vendors will go above and beyond to help you create your dream day. Take some time to send a little extra thanks their way during this holiday season.
4) Inspiration! We don’t know about you but it is hard for us to imagine planning a wedding without the plethora of beautiful images and the tips and tricks for creating your perfect wedding style that are available these days. Weather you want your dream day style to be rustic, vintage or classic, we live in a time where the inspiration is endless. So this holiday season we are thankful for all the beautiful inspiration in the world we use and translate into weddings.
5) Your Fiancé! We saved the best for last! This is a busy time of your lives, so use wedding planning as a chance to spend some quality couple time together. It is important to keep in mind what all this wedding planning madness is really about…at the end of the day it comes down to you and your fiancé saying “I do” and spending your lives together and that’s truly a reason to be thankful this holiday season.
Most couples insist on having the best entertainment experience for their loyal guests who are traveling near and far for their big day. What is often overlooked are the endless possibilities event lighting can offer and add to your wedding day. You’re in luck, because Instant request not only offers award winning DJ services, but also specializes in upscale event lighting. This week we spoke with Shawn Plante, who started his business at the age of 14, to get all the best info on DJ entertainment and event lighting in this week’s VOW!
Q: What does Instant Request specialize in?
A: We specialize in upscale DJ Entertainment and event lighting.
Q: What makes Instant Request stand out compared to other wedding entertainment options?
A: The long history of our consistent quality makes us very unique by comparison. Everything from our equipment, logistics, client software, DJ staff and management staff are continually improving to deliver the maximum value to our clients. I think we are an amazing value!
Q: When and how did Instant Request begin?
A: My first gig was a free church basement dance where I built a light show from scratch and borrowed my brothers home stereo. After that night, I knew what I wanted to do and it was full steam ahead. I was instantly hooked and all I could think about was how to make my music, lighting and sound shows better.
I DJ’d my first paying gig at a Country Club wedding at age 14 wearing a red bow tie and cumber bun. I wish I had a photo of that! The couple wanted more than Country music and Polkas from the band. I remember rehearsing the playlists and announcements for months before the show. 36 years ago, DJs at weddings didn’t really exist so I had to come up with a playlist and crowd participation for the evening. I wanted there to be a good progression of events to accommodate old and young guests alike. My mom and I came up with the icebreaker event now known as the Anniversary Dance so we could fill the dance floor right away. In regards to music, I used turntables. My dad had a ton of records and I would make notes on the tempo (BPM) of the song and how popular it was. I went through a lot of turntable needles! It was so much fun to explore and find those special songs that would pack the dance floor. My dad’s collection was amazing. He had records from the Buddy Holly to the Ohio Players. (you know that song – Love Rollercoaster). That was mind blowing for me in a farm community in northern Minnesota.
Q: How did you come up with the name “Instant Request”?
A: Our radio station took requests over the phone and recorded you live. Then, they would announce an “Instant Request”, (with a really deep announcer voice) play your recorded phone request and then play your song. It was so much fun because you could hear your own voice on the radio. I actually booked my first client before I had a company name. When I got home, I sat at the kitchen table with a pen and paper to come up with name. Turned the radio on, and it instantly came to me. I heard the Disc Jockey playing a phone request saying “INSTANT REQUEST” and I immediately started working on our first logo so I could hit up our art teacher in school to print silk screen T-Shirts.
Q: Whats an average (event or wedding) day like for Instant Request?
A: Wedding days are from 2:30 pm to 2:30 am. All of the equipment and music preparation is done during the week. We pick up the equipment, drive to venue, load in before anyone arrives, test everything, run though a live sound check, change into our tuxedo and start prepping for event, like the playing the music for the Ceremony, GRAND MARCH and so on. We spend a lot of time memorizing proper pronunciation of names and making sure to be organized. Changes throughout the night from the bride or event planner are common so we have to be prepared for whatever arises. The best part for DJs is packing the dance floor for four hours. Music ends as late as 1:00 at no additional charge so by the time we pack up and drive back to the warehouse, it is a 12 hour day.
Q: What would you want couples who are searching for the perfect entertainment experience for their wedding, rehearsal or other wedding-related event to know about Instant Request?
A: Most everyone knows about our 12 Consecutive BEST DJ Awards but many couples aren’t aware of our amazing event lighting. I would definitely say that couples should highly consider some event lighting. It really makes you feel like you are at a special event.
Q: Any advice for couples regarding choosing entertainment options for any part of their wedding celebration?
A: Yes, we have a reservation program called BLACK TIE CERTIFIED where couples can select one of our senior DJ staff and have a face to face consultation for a nominal fee. I would highly recommend that extra level of service if the DJ is on your priority list.
Q: How does lighting enhance a wedding? What do you offer for lighting?
A: Now that I’ve done lighting for almost every venue in town, I know that lighting is often overlooked. Adding lighting creates a mood and makes you feel the event. We have LED lights in any color which enhance any design whether it’s rustic or contemporary. We have textured ceiling effects, custom rotating monograms for the dance floor, pin spots to high light floral centerpieces or our dramatic all-inclusive intelligent lighting package which includes a lighting designer on site all night who programs the patterns, color and movement. The package is very versatile so whether the venue is the size of the Calhoun Beach Club or the Landmark Center it is a great fit.
Q: How far in advance should a couple book Instant Request?
A: We book the vast majority of our business 6-8 months out. That means that the shopping starts in October for Summer weddings!
Q: What do you like about working in the wedding industry?
A: I love improving and enhancing events. Everyone wants to go to a fun event or wedding. Great music and tasteful lighting design can make all the difference.

“Feminine, Sophisticated and Luxurious” are three words fashion experts would use to describe Romona Keveza and her designs. Romona is one of Hollywood’s most sought after designers. Her looks constantly appear on the red carpet’s best-dressed list. Romona has dressed some of our favorite celebrities such as Angelina Jolie, Kate Hudson, Kendall Jenner, Ariana Grande and even Oprah Winfrey! Based in NYC, Romona started her empire by introducing her signature bridal collection. Proudly produced in North America, the Romona Keveza label has become one of the most respected and loved labels for both brides and celebs alike! Most recently, in 2014, Keveza opened her NY flagship at The Penthouse of Iconic Rockefeller Plaza, we can attest, it’s just as beautiful as you’d imagine!
Each Bridal Fashion week in New York we are always thrilled to attend the presentation of Romona Keveza’s two collections. Legends, which celebrates classic style – think Grace Kelly, and Collections, which is more fashion-forward for today’s fashionista.
In the Legends collection, Romona incisions the timeless style of Grace Kelly with a 14-piece lineup of ethereal stately sophisticated gowns that never go out of style. Each gown took aspects of Grace Kelly’s historic wardrobe from Hollywood with the flowing silk organzas to the famously distinctive ball gown. Prominent this season were silhouettes with delicate lace and beaded embroidery details, showcasing couture hand beading accentuating the superb craftsmanship of the silhouettes.
Collections was all about the modern bride, the fashionista. This meant color, contemporary architectural designs and drama including a silk net chapel-length cape, and a blush and lavender fluted gown with metallic silk-embroidered lace was a standout. While her shorter length architectural gowns were simple and clean, perfect for the courthouse ceremony. The finale gown was described by Romona as a quintessential Cinderella fantasy with a the flare of couturier designer Charles James from 1953.
