Now any commoner can turn princess-for-a-day, by renting one of the royal residences available for private events including weddings. We sat down and talked to Lin Kennedy, Manager of Banqueting House to talk about events in such historic venues and also producing events each year for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
Originally the property of the Archbishops of York, the Banqueting House was used to provide entertainment for Charles I, and was later the scene of his execution. After the fire that destroyed Whitehall Palace in 1698, it was used as a chapel until 1890. From 1896 until 1962 the Banqueting House was occupied by the Royal United Services Institute and used as a museum. As part of Her Majesties Palaces, Banqueting House; along with the Tower of London, Hampton Court Palace, Kensington Palace – home to the former Princess Diana of Wales and Kew Palace are all Royal Palaces of The Queen, available for corporate events, charity galas and wedding celebrations.
