Two years into dating, Baihly’s great-grandmother knew that Connor was the one for her great-granddaughter and gifted him a diamond to use to create an engagement ring. A couple of years later, he used it to design a custom piece and asked Baihly to marry him on a romantic and snowy day in Park City, Utah. And on 10/10/2020, they married in the brides’ parents’ front yard in Rochester, Minnesota, with a boho fall wedding celebration.

The Planning

Baihly, a Health and Wellness Consultant, and Connor, an Arborist, met while in college at the University of Wisconsin – Stevens Point through a mutual friend, and moved to Salt Lake City, Utah, following graduation. Though they still live out West, they wanted to have their wedding close to home, “I always knew that I wanted to get married in my parents front yard under a tent in the fall,” explains the bride. “We have a HUGE maple tree in the front yard that turns a gorgeous red color in the first week of October so it was perfect timing.”

When designing the boho fall wedding day, Baihly enlisted the help of a local planner, “We wanted a very earthy boho vibe for our wedding. Our main color was burnt orange and then I let Bri get creative from there and put together the rest of the colors for the flowers,” says Baihly. She goes on to say that she allowed her planner(s) to get creative and let them run with the palette. She states that having their team assist with designing signage and adding in more decor elements was extremely helpful.

The planning was a family affair with the bride’s parents/owners of Majestic Events — and good friends of The Wedding Guys! — providing all the rentals and assisting with the design. The bride also designed all of the menus, signage, and invitations herself!

When looking for her bridal gown, Baihly wanted something she would be comfortable in and found the perfect one at a local bridal shop, “I was obsessed with the slim fit of it and all the added detail and texture. I didn’t want anything too over the top yet I wanted it to be unique to our style of the wedding,” she says of her wedding day look. Bridesmaids rocked burnt orange midi dresses and the men wore gray suits with floral-printed ties.

For their 150 person boho fall wedding, the couple incorporated burnt orange elements throughout the floral, linens, and centerpieces. Wood lanterns, lush greenery, and wooden cross-back chairs contributed to the earthy feel all under a towering outdoor tent. Tones of ivory and beige were sprinkled in as well as macrame for texture.

The Party

Both the bride and groom asked their siblings to stand by their side during the day, and Baihly states “The rest of our wedding party was a mix of friends from both the midwest and Salt Lake City. Although most of them hadn’t met before, you would have thought they’d known each other for years!”

At the reception, Baihly’s aunts led guests in an Irish blessing before the meal. “It was so fun to see everyone holding hands and singing together unifying both sides of our families,” she says of this special moment. The bride says the highlight of the night was the food (as it should be!) “We had a mac-and-cheese station with add-ins such as chicken, bacon, and veggies; a taco station with your choice of meat; and fresh paella that was made on-site and a salad bar with all the fresh greens.”

As for dessert, Connor’s mom made a delicious cheesecake and the bride’s grandmother made all of the cookies. And after dinner, guests loved taking photos in the couple’s “something blue”, an old school blue Volkswagen.

Looking back on the boho fall wedding, Baihly has some advice for those currently planning a wedding, “I think our sage advice for couples planning a wedding is don’t forget that at the end of the day, it’s about the two of you getting married so it’s going to be the best day ever even if things don’t go 100% according to plan. Don’t try to please everyone; if there’s something you really want at your wedding such as a specific flower, food option, or color, stick to it! This wedding is for you, not for the people around you!”
