Picture this: you and your new husband or wife arrive at your wedding reception for your first dance. As you approach, an LED dance floor twinkles beneath you creating a romantic ambiance.
Imagine Lights specializes in LED dance floors and unique lighting for weddings and events making the feel of your day one-of-a-kind. We talked to owner Kirk Holslin about his distinct business and how he’ll level up your celebration.

Q: Let’s get to it, what’s your business’ specialty?
A: LED dance floors and décor lighting
Q: Where can we find you?
A: In my office in Mahtomedi, MN
Q: Tell us when and how your business began.
A: I started a DJ company in 1999 with a business partner. Our core business concept was to under promise and over deliver for each event.
Q: What makes your company unique from others?
A: I am the only company in the 5+ state area with an LED Pixel / Starlit dance floor.
Q: How long have you been in the industry? What do you think has changed the most since then?
A: 22 years. There are so many changes that have occurred since I started within this field. Within my specialty of lighting and sound, technology advances have given me increased flexibility for unique setups. A couple of examples are the transition to digital media for music playback, & battery-powered LED lighting that has virtually replaced all incandescent lighting.

Q: Walk us through your average day.
A: My days start quite early, often before sunrise. A cup of hot tea helps bring me to focus as I review my emails, social media posts, and news feeds.
On the day of an event, you will find me arriving 4 to 5 hours prior to guest arrival to begin setting up. My goal is to have the dance floor, lighting, and sound in place at least 2 hours prior to the start of an event.
Once onsite, I generally do not leave the event while is in motion. You will find me adjusting lighting, tweaking the LED dance floor, and working with other vendors to ensure our client is very satisfied with the event.
Once the event is over, I will begin the process to pack up and load the equipment for the trip home.
Q: What would you want couples searching for your business type to know?
A: I run a family business; my wife and children help with all aspects of working an event. We know that our future events are based on the success of each prior event.
Q: How far in advance should a couple book with you?
A: 6 months

Q: What’s one wedding trend you’re over?
A: Cheap Christmas lights strung under the head table for a “dramatic” effect.
Q: What’s hot in wedding decor right now?
A: Looking ahead with COVID-19 in mind, we are set for small scale/mini/intimate events with social distancing in place. You will be seeing more a focus on the client’s personal style with the use of textures and increased use of natural design elements.
LIGHTNING ROUND!
Q: What show are you binging right now?
A: The Orville
Q: You’re in charge of the lineup for your dream concert. Who are your headliners?
A: The Eagles, Billy Joel & Sir Elton John
Q: Gold or Silver?
A: Silver
Q: Black Tie or Casual?
A: Casual
Q: You’re at brunch. Are you going for something sweet or savory?
A: Savory
Q: Favorite board game?
A: Stratego
Q: Mountains or Beach?
A: Mountains
Q: Who would you like to sit next to on a plane?
A: Tom Hanks
