Summer is always a gorgeous time of year to get married. There are so many floral options in the summer months and couples that appreciate beautiful flowers can have fun with all that mother nature has to offer. Here are some gorgeous summer bouquets that will make your floral bridal accessory something memorable.
STUNNING SUMMER BOUQUET TRENDS
Bright colors seem to be the biggest trend in summer wedding bouquets. “[The summer] season is full of sunshiny yellows and oranges accompanied by bright pinks and even blues,” says Chelsea Dudek of Hey There Cupcake and now Daisy Co. Florals. “In-season varieties include everything from dahlias and zinnias to protea and clematis flowers.”
Candace Holmstadt, of 651StudioFloral believes that yellow, the 2021 Pantone Color of the Year, contributed to the popularity of the hue in wedding bouquets, “With so many yellow flower choices the sky’s the limit on bouquet ideas. I recommend using different shades of yellow because matching one shade is impossible. Pick yellow as a wedding color, and run with it in every shade and it will look cohesive.”

Kasey Schwartz, of Ink and Ivy Designs, agrees that summer is a great time of year to embrace bright hues, “An ideal summer bouquet, in my opinion, is something bright and vibrant! That may vary depending on couples’ preference, of course, whether that means bold colors, or bright whites and neutrals — if it is designed with the uniqueness of the couple in mind, it’s perfect.” Schwartz advises, “Don’t be shy when it comes to color! It can be intimidating to choose a more vibrant color palette, but adding intentional color creates a unique sense of personalization to your wedding.”

If going bold and bright is too much for you, consider adding pops of color to a neutral base. Schwartz suggests using toffee roses or delphinium in blue hues, which are growing in popularity for summer bouquets.
POPULAR FLOWER CHOICES
According to Holmstadt, of 651StudioFloral, “The ideal summer bouquet is one with peonies! Peonies have a short season, from the end of April through early July, so if you want peonies you had better be getting married in those months. When peonies are out of season I recommend Clooney ranunculus for their huge unique ruffled texture! They are different so brides are drawn to their uniqueness.”

You could of course, use any florals you want at any time of year, but using florals that are in-season are much more budget-friendly.
Another very popular flower for bridal summer bouquets are orchids. According to Holmstadt the Phaleonopsis variety leads the pack in popularity, and adding just a few of these tropical flowers to a bridal bouquet makes a large statement. And white isn’t the only orchid around, many colors are selling including “caramel, bubblegum, pink, and blue lagoon! Lots of color variations in cymbidium orchids are now available.”
MIXING TEXTURES IN SUMMER WEDDING FLOWERS
Holmstadt comments, “What is really trending is fresh florals with dried flowers, preserved or even wood flowers. The mix of them together adds life to a bouquet.” Here we show you a white peony bouquet that Holmstadt mixed with blue wood flowers. Because blue flowers are very limited, Holmstadt tells us how to make them, “You can create blue flowers with dye or paint which is also becoming very popular!
If you don’t know where to start when requesting a bouquet from your florist, Holmstadt recommends bringing inspiration photos to a floral consultation, but let your florist have some creative freedom. “I have nailed an inspiration photo many times, but my most popular bouquets are the ones I got some creative freedom. Have swatches for your wedding colors but also let the florist give you guidance based on your color choices. I also encourage all my brides to send me photos of bouquets they love and bouquets they hate, this way I get to understand what their dream bouquets might be!”
