How a group of Minnesota brides started a national philanthropic initiative
After your wedding, you might have a problem deciding what to do with your wedding gown. It’s understandable that many brides have a hard time parting with it, but then, the dress collects dust in a closet! You could sell it, but then you’re saying goodbye forever. One local Minnesota bride had an idea to lend her dress to someone who could really use it, thereby spreading joy through a dress that had already given her so much of her own happiness.
LEND A GOWN FORWARD
Local bride Tina Nguyen lent out her beautiful gown to relieve another bride’s stress. Take a look at her as a bride in her own stunning gown.
HOW THE SISTERHOOD STARTED
In this current climate when couples are scrambling to re-plan their weddings, Tina wanted to make one aspect of planning easier: getting a wedding dress. So she posted an ad and before she knew it there was interest in her dress. She felt so good lending it out and knowing she was helping out another bride. When Tina’s wedding photographer, Madalyn Vermeer of MVPhotos (you might know her from our Vendor of the Week Series) found out about this generous act, she decided to do the same, and then together they created a Facebook group for others to lend out their gowns.

Before long, the “Sisterhood of the Traveling Wedding Gowns” was born. In its 1st week, the Facebook group already had 400 members. This story was even featured on KARE11, and word is spreading on how brides can help other brides, one dress at a time. Check it out to see if you can lend a gown, or perhaps, find one you want to borrow. What a rewarding way to spread the love of a gown to others!
