What an absolutely sweet and fabulous time we had on our train ride through the English countryside to Liverpool, England today to meet with David of David’s Cakes of Distinction. Thrilled is an understatement when we arrived in the shop of masterpiece confections. The first cake that caught our eyes is the 7 foot tall cake that weighed 600 pounds! It was taller than Bruce when sitting on the floor and then think of putting it on a table! Amazing!! The detailing of the string icing and the flowers – did we mention the flowers…well they are so real looking and beautifully crafted. The vision and design sings through David’s musical strokes of piping and draping techniques. But as many know it can’t just be beautiful it has to taste amazing as well. David surely did not disappoint us as the cake did a dance on our taste buds and quite pleased our palate.
In our interview we talk about the different types of cakes and the now very famous ’Fruit Cake’ it’s not what you think, we actually ate every piece David gave us in the tasting so we now challenge the wedding industry to adopt the fruit cake as a wedding cake choice. We were given the Royal Treatment by David and his staff, and he should know how to do that as David presented royal wedding cakes to Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson as well as Prince Edward and Sophie Rhys-Jones. David’s pride and passion for everything wedding cakes of splendid royal detail is astounding so please enjoy our conversation with David. We had so much fun after 3 hours of interviewing ending with David playing the piano….the talent doesn’t stop!
