Each year, The Wedding Guys publishes the Wedding Trends Look Book to inspire you to dream of ways to create a day that embodies you, your fiancé, and the important people in your life. We’re here to help you design a day that welcomes those that are most treasured to you, as you come together to celebrate your marriage in their company.
Below is an elegant, mid-century-inspired wedding design with bold, saturated colors and unlimited textures. You’ll find this eccentric theme live at the Twin Cities Bridal Show Inspiration Station on Sunday, February 25th! Below is a sneak peek, but don’t miss your chance to see it in person. Enter a world where a nostalgic yet current style effortlessly blends elements from the past with contemporary touches. The result is a wedding design that’s timeless, trendy and completely unexpected. Envision bold indigo, punchy tangerine, and neutral khaki tones on display in geometric motifs throughout the décor that tie the entire theme together. This mesmerizing affair transports you to a world entitled Retro Revived.
Trends from the 1960s and ‘70s have infiltrated homes with earth-toned walls, curved furniture, and clean lines. Throwback and mid-century modern flair is now entering the world of weddings as we see vivid tints occupying all aspects of the day from invitations to table linens and even desserts.
Stepping into the intimate ceremony feels more like walking through a luxury interior design showroom than a ceremony venue. Matte white bucket chairs with natural wood legs are placed on either side of the glossy aisle runner that boasts an eccentric triangular pattern. Glowing lights shine behind the altar highlighting multi-colored curved arches that match the color scheme. Disco ball décor lets guests know that it’s a party and that they should celebrate accordingly.
Textiles are a simple element that has an impactive punch. A dynamic patterned table linen in apricot, charcoal, navy, and tan resembling architectural design lays a gorgeous foundation for an eclectic table design. The table looks busy but look closely and you’ll see that the layers are rather simple.
Bulbous vases in varying heights and colors are playfully placed across the oversized head table. Saffron and sapphire-toned glassware are ready to be filled with libations sure to set the evening off right. Billowing, cloud-like white paper chandeliers delicately hang above the table illuminating the tablescape.
Placement is key when it comes to a tabletop arrangement. Thoughtfully stacking each component will have guests buzzing for years to come. Below you’ll see a stunning composition that begins with an art-deco square placemat beneath a hammered square plate turned 90 degrees so it sits in a diamond shape. A tangerine arched menu provides a first look into the night’s indulgent menu. Sleek gold flatware and a rust-colored napkin carefully folded into a knot fuse modernity with nostalgic tones.
A four-tiered cake becomes a statement piece when placed in the center of the reception space. This confection is a masterpiece with mod square layers tying in the retro color palette. Hand-painted brushstrokes of dyed buttercream and clusters of blue dots provide a surprising texture showcasing that even the smallest details can be inspired by decades passed.
Stepping into the reception venue felt like walking into a cocktail lounge straight out of the 1970s. The gracefully curved navy chairs provided an ideal spot for sipping on a Grasshopper cocktail, an iconic libation from that era. The artfully-designed bar front echoed the geometric pattern observed along the ceremony aisle, and the couple’s personalized monogram seamlessly united the entire aesthetic for the guests.
As funky melodies filled the air, attendees found themselves transported to a bygone era. This nostalgic journey served as a reminder that the past isn’t merely a collection of memories but a period of inspiration deserving of celebration and reinterpretation for years to come.
