Want to know how to transform a space for an event? Quite possibly the quickest way to an insta-worthy wedding is thru rental furniture. Sure, you can put down a dance floor, but adding a custom bar, swapping out some corporate chairs for Chiavari, and replacing drab tables with modern styles really takes a room to a whole new level. We sat down with BeThing’s Ryan Hanson, who told us more about this sometimes-overlooked aspect of wedding planning.
YOU’LL BE SURPRISED AT WHAT YOU’LL FIND
There’s “more furniture than you can imagine, to set your ceremony, reception or bridal suite up for success.” Hanson describes just some of the many options available, at BeThigns “We offer all pieces necessary for your lounge: sofas, side chairs, club chairs, rugs, lamps, coffee, and side tables. We also have unique head tables, or signature dessert table options, offer a robust collection of chandeliers, brand-able bars, outdoor furniture, and signature environmental décor such as hedge walls.”
PLANNERS KNOW THE POSSIBILITIES
Planners work on events all the time, so they know the possibilities. Hanson says, “We probably work with planners more in that they are more attuned to the fine furniture and available elements – many couples don’t know all the cool stuff they could have. [There really are] beautiful things available for rent! From modern to mill-city industrial, to over the top glam, our collections of pieces can readily set the mood for the type of soiree each individual couple wants to throw.”
THE THREE D’S TO SUCCESS
Hanson explains the simple 3-step process to working with BeThings: “Dream: We invite every couple to meet with us and share their dreams for their big day. Our mobile-friendly website lets couples peruse furniture and figure out what pieces they are most interested in. Decide: We dive in to discover what we call the big three: what are the three things at your reception you care about or want to be remembered. If it’s a signature bar, a sparkling ceremony setting of crystal chandeliers, or a place for the party to take a break from the dancefloor, we look to their venue and pull together the furniture pieces perfect for their passion and the space. We choose the pieces and plot them in your space and book the furniture. Then we Deliver: our remarkable staff shows up and sets the pieces to plan, making sure you have nothing to worry about. After your wedding, we remove the furniture and ensure a space that is left better than we found it.”

INSTA-WORTHY OPTIONS
Right now, Hanson tells us the most popular items being rented from BeThings are bars, chandeliers, Nora Blue or Alfie curved sofas, and gold chameleon chairs. Keeping an open mind to all of your options, opens you up to creative choices. “Many couples think they are stuck with what the venue provides, which is completely untrue,” says Hanson, “From grand chandeliers to luxurious lounge furniture to a bespoke bar – it’s on demand for the savvy couples who wants to makes their experience their own.” And doesn’t every couple want to make their day something true-to-them?
STAYING WITHIN BUDGET
While “there is a definite perception that lounge furniture is a luxury item” and yes, there are couples that can rent everything from lounge furnishings to massive chandeliers, Hanson ensures that “we strive to meet every couple where they are at [budget-wise] – some just want a great bar with their name on it because the signature cocktail is the thing. Others want a remarkable head table with stunning chairs (we’ve got that). We work with all couples who want to showcase something special on their big day.” Whatever is special to you, can make your wedding insta-worthy.
KEY TIPS TO KEEP IN MIND
Hanson advises that you take a field trip to test furniture out, “Ask to see the stuff: If you are considering lounge furniture for your wedding, there are lots of choices, but remember like shopping for any item, you get what you pay for. There is the IKEA version of furniture and the Ethan Allen version of furniture. Which would you rather sit in or have photographed at your wedding? Ask your vendor partner for a visit to their warehouse where you can peruse the furniture, see how it is cared for and stored, and have a chance to try it out. There is no better judge than your backside for how comfortable a chair or sofa will be.”
It’s also very important not to over-order but avoid under-ordering too, “Sometimes we’ll field calls for couples who want a sofa for their wedding. They’ve got 250 guests and want one sofa by the dancefloor. That doesn’t really work. If you are going to offer lounge seating, you need to have enough pieces for folks to be able to use it. Use 10-15% [of your total guest count] as a good estimator for the cocktail hour or the end of the night. Most people will be on the dancefloor or mingling, but that gives a few options for those who need a break.” says Hanson.
