She’s been behind the camera for over 20 years and prides herself in providing excellent customer service to couples. Discover more about this Minnesota photographer and what her favorite trends in photography are right now below!
Q: Let’s get to it, what’s your business’ specialty?
A: Kerri Ann Photography specializes in, you guessed it, wedding photography! I love everything about weddings and I love to photograph them too.
Q: Where can we find you?
A: Although I work from my home in Monticello, MN, I service the twin cities, Central MN, and the Duluth and Brainerd areas. I love Minnesota and exploring new places. If you’re not meeting me for coffee and chatting about your wedding, you can find me at home with my husband, 2 beautiful children, and fur babies.
Q: Tell us when and how your business began.
A: I started my business officially in 2009 but have been photographing weddings since my early college days in 2004. I always wanted to be my own boss and in 2009 I had the opportunity to do just that. If I’m being honest, I worked for a not-so-honest photographer that went out of business in 2008. I learned so many things, good and bad from that experience. I walked away from that studio knowing how I wanted my customers to feel and be treated. I also learned some great posing flow techniques, additional photoshop skills, and album design.
Q: What makes your company unique from others?
A: I think that my company is unique in my customer service. I really strive to take the time to get to know YOU both, what you enjoy, what makes you laugh, how you met, and why you fell in love. I want my images to represent truly who you are as a couple and I want the world to feel your love through my images.
Q: How long have you been in the industry? What do you think has changed the most since then?
A: I have been in the wedding industry since 2004, almost 20 years! Man, that makes a girl feel old. The best part of all of it is I still love my job and can’t imagine doing anything else.
The second part of your question isn’t as easy to answer. So many things have changed and yet it all stays relatively the same. The trends are really fun to watch and I’ve seen a few over the years!
Q: What would you want couples searching for wedding photography/videography needs to know?
A: I think it’s important for couples to know or have a good idea of what style of photography they like. I also think it’s important to have a budget but don’t let that determine who your photographer is. If your decision is based solely on your budget and not your style you could end up unhappy with your final images.
Q: How far in advance should a couple book with you?
A: I would say couples should book about a year in advance. I currently have a few select dates remaining for 2023 and am booking into 2024.
Q: What’s trending in wedding photography right now?
A: Hmmm, that’s a great question! I think that we’ve been seeing a trend of very romantic images, bright and airy images, or the opposite, dark and moody images over the past couple of years. I think the more organic look continues to trend as well as capturing ALL the details and personal touches. I think we will also see a stronger comeback for film and maybe some retro styles. Drone photography, photobooths, and DIY photobooths are also on trend. I can’t wait to see what else 2023 brings!
Q: Describe your photography style.
A: At Kerri Ann Photography I would say we have a mixture of styles blended together. I will do some posed images but ideally, I set you up in the best lighting and let your love shine through. I will definitely guide anyone that needs it, this is why I love engagement sessions. It allows me to get to know you better, I get to learn your quirks in front of the camera and you get to learn how to take direction from me and relax in front of the camera. So, to answer the question, my style is: Romantic, natural, posed, candid, editorial, and timeless.
Q: Do you ever travel to shoot weddings? If so, what has been your favorite destination so far?
A: I do travel for weddings! My favorite wedding was a few years ago when we traveled to Boulder, Colorado, over a holiday weekend. We stayed at a ranch in the mountains and had an amazing experience riding horses, hiking, learning to line dance with ranch hands, and finally a ceremony in the mountain top chapel. It was stunning, to say the least!
LIGHTNING ROUND!
Q: What show are you binging right now?
A: I’m a big fan of Yellowstone and 1923. I also don’t watch a ton of TV so I’m not really sure what I’m missing.
Q: You’re in charge of the lineup for your dream concert. Who are your headliners?
A: I would love to see: Anne Wilson, Brandon Lake and Elevation Worship
Q: Gold or Silver?
A: Silver and Rose gold, can I say two?
Q: What is your favorite Minnesota activity?
A: I love cabin time and being at the lake with my family.
Q: You’re at brunch. Are you going for something sweet or savory?
A: Sweet, always sweet!
Q: What is your hidden talent?
A: Since photography is my superpower, I would say macrame is my hidden talent, I can knot all day!
Q: Do you have any favorite podcasts?
A: I love the Mum Life Community, so good for mommas!
Q: Mountains or Beach?
A: I can’t pick, both!
Q: If you could choose any celebrity or public figure to sit next to on a plane, who would it be?
A: Barack Obama
