There are no rules when it comes to many aspects of wedding planning, as you might have heard from us before. One of the biggest trends we’re seeing lately is bridal parties of mixed gender, and we got to thinking that you might want tips on what they should wear.
If your bestie is a guy, who says he can’t be your Man of Honor? If you’re the groom and you’d prefer your sister to be a groomswoman rather than a bridesmaid, so be it. Or maybe you just have men and women that would prefer to dress in non-conventional ways for the wedding. We have some tips on how to keep the wedding photos cohesive with a mixed gender bridal party.

COLOR COORDINATION IS KEY
One way to keep the bridal party looking cohesive is to have those that want to wear pants coordinate with the colors in the rest of the bridal party. The same goes for ties — have those that want to wear ties don them in the same colors as the bridesmaid dresses. This way, no matter who’s wearing what, everyone will look coordinated.
If you have a groomswoman (or Best Woman) that wants to wear a dress, have them wear a neutral gray or navy dress, or one that matches the suits. And if you have a bridesman, have him wear a bold suit that matches the bridesmaids!
If you have a female member of the bridal party that wants to wear a suit, if it’s the same color as the men’s suits, the bridal party will look seamless. Check out how one mixed gender bridal party did this in Gabrielle and Brett’s Real Wedding.
EMBRACE THE JUMPSUIT
One of the biggest trends in fashion, bridal fashion, and everywhere these days is the jumpsuit. Formal and non-formal alike, the jumpsuit is everywhere. Lucky for us, that means you can find them in a variety of colors, fabrics, and styles to work with your bridesmaid dresses.

An alternative that can be made super formal is to pick a black jumpsuit for the Best Woman or Groomswoman, such as this one from Jenny Packham.

Other alternative fashion ideas for your mixed gender bridal party can be to coordinate through your floral choices, such as the bouquets or boutonniere hues.
