Q: Let’s get to it, what’s your business’ specialty?
A: Landmark Jewelers specializes in fine jewelry, from traditional modern jewelry to vintage estate pieces. We’re known for our unique estate pieces which you can’t find anywhere else.
Q: Where can we find you?
A: We’re located in the heart of downtown St. Paul in the historic Hamm Building.
Q: Tell us when and how your business began.
A: We purchased Landmark Jewelers this year, in January. It is under new management but we are continuing to focus on its historical richness, which dates back to 1883.
Q: What makes your company unique from others?
A: We are well known for vintage estate pieces, spanning over the last 100 years. Pieces that are no longer made in today’s world, and cannot be found anywhere. In addition, we are devoted to making custom jewelry, both from scratch or incorporated with personal, memorable pieces.
Q: How long have you been in the industry? What do you think has changed the most since then?
A: I have been in the ‘happy business’ as we call it, for almost two decades! Over the years, I have noticed that both men and women have become more empowered to treat themselves to jewelry, rather than waiting for someone to gift it to them.
Q: Walk us through your average workday.
A: I start my day setting up the cases with our pretty jewelry and making sure everything looks clean and orderly. After that, it’s the excitement and joy of helping our clients who come through the door. This can be everything from repairing jewelry, creating custom jewelry, to helping couples pick out an engagement ring, or assisting with finding the perfect gift for a special occasion. A lot of my time is also spent researching our large estates we get in and planning fun upcoming events in the store.
Q: What would you want couples searching for wedding jewelry to know?
A: Three things. Go with their personal style. Big box stores are all the same and we think each couple should find something that reflects their personalities. Quality is important as well, to invest in high-quality jewelry couples should use a reputable jeweler that takes time to consider materials, craftsmanship, and warranty. Finally, the concept of timelessness is important not only in the jewelry that couples choose to purchase and wear but also in the relationship they establish with the jeweler they entrust for their wedding jewelry, which can last a lifetime.
Q: How far in advance should a couple purchase their wedding rings?
A: At least 2-3 months before their wedding date. This will give them enough time to browse different styles, sizes, and materials, and to have any necessary adjustments made to the rings. If couples are planning to have custom-made rings, they may need to allow up to 6 months, to ensure that the rings are completed to their specifications. It’s always a good idea to plan ahead and purchase wedding rings well in advance to avoid any last-minute stress or complications.
Q: What’s your favorite wedding jewelry trend lately?
A: I have always loved the richness and elegance of yellow gold… SO happy it’s making a comeback!
Q: What’s your best piece of advice for someone looking to purchase an engagement ring for their
partner?
A: It’s important to consider your partner’s personal style and set a budget that you’re comfortable with. Choose the right metal and diamond based on your partner’s lifestyle and preferences, and be sure to buy from a reputable jeweler who can provide certification and documentation for the diamond. Make sure you have the correct ring size before purchasing, and plan a meaningful proposal that reflects your love and commitment to each other.
