1. Are you available for my wedding date/what dates do you have available?
Do you have a set wedding date in mind? Ask this question first to see if this vendor has the day you are looking for available first to be sure if you want to move forward with getting to know them better.
2. How long have you been in the industry?
This is a great icebreaker question to get to know the person behind the business and discover how they got their start in weddings and why they love what they do. At bridal shows, you will meet experienced industry veterans of 20+ years as well as newcomers eager to make your day amazing.
3. How far in advance should I book with you?
Some wedding venues and photographers book out weddings 2+ years in advance, while a boutique florist may only need 4-6 months notice. If you are “speed-dating” vendors, be sure to ask this question to get a feel for when you need to book their services.
4. What is your pricing structure?
This is one of the questions to ask wedding vendors that many dread, but is the most important one to ensure you are working with a business within your budget! The pricing may seem daunting at first, but you can break up the questions into “What is your deposit required?” and “When is the final payment due?” as well as “Do you offer off-season pricing?”.
5. Can you share some reviews with me?
Whether it is Google, Facebook, or testimonials from their website, a wedding service should be able to provide you with reviews from real couples. This way you can get a feel for what brides and grooms say about working with these companies and help you decide if they will be a good fit for your day.
6. Do you have a portfolio of your work/property that I can see?
This is one of the questions to ask wedding vendors if you are speaking to a photographer, venue, florist, planner, rental company, and others but may not apply to all. Seeing real examples of their work is one of the best ways to understand their style.
7. How many weddings do you service in a day?
This won’t apply to every vendor, but it is good to know if a venue hosts multiple weddings in a day, or if a florist or caterer takes on multiple couples in a weekend. This is not always a bad thing if they do have the capacity, but is good to know in advance!
8. What is your cancellation policy?
COVID has made this question a must-ask when thinking about questions to ask wedding vendors. During that time, couples found themselves having to reschedule/cancel due to unforeseen circumstances and are out of money, so it is good to know in advance what a company’s cancellation or rescheduling policy is upfront.
9. Do you provide written contracts?
A professional wedding service provider should be able to provide a written contract with you when you decide to book them that includes their pricing, day-of wedding needs, and any policies you need to know. This way, there won’t be any guesswork and you can hold each other accountable. Being on the same page right away is so important to make your day perfect!
10. What do you love about working in the wedding industry?
