Where else can you get married that offers luxury accommodations, a golf course, seating for up to 800, an on-site casino and world-class cuisine? You’ll find all of these amazing amenities and more at Mystic Lake Center! We talked to their Catering Sales Executive, Lexi, who gave us all the details on why their property is the perfect place for a glamorous and fun-filled wedding.
Q: Let’s get to it, what’s your business’ specialty?
A: We have three versatile ballrooms that can be as elaborate or intimate as couples would like. For larger weddings, we can accommodate up to 800 guests in our 13,000-square-foot ballroom. We also have an award-winning culinary team, and lighting and AV teams who work to customize weddings at Mystic Lake Center.
Q: Where can we find you?
A: 2400 Mystic Lake Blvd, Prior Lake, MN
Q: Tell us when and how your business began.
A: Mystic Lake Casino Hotel opened in 1992 and is owned and operated by the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community. Mystic Lake Center was an addition to Mystic Lake Casino Hotel which opened in 2018.
Q: What makes your company unique from others?
A: We are a casino property, but we are also a resort and a conference center. When you are in the casino end of our property, you would have no idea that just a few minute’s walk away is an enormous event center.
Q: How long have you been in the industry? What do you think has changed the most since then?
A: Officially 3 years. So much has changed since I started in this industry right during Covid. Attendance for events these days is higher than ever! Also, couples are getting a lot of inspiration from things like TikTok and Instagram.
Q: Walk us through your average workday.
A: If it’s wedding day, I’ll arrive early in the day to check on set-up and decorating. Then I’ll check in with our operations department and the wedding coordinator or couples. We use a group text chat with our operations departments and the couple’s day of coordinator. It’s a great way to answer questions and help our couples with anything they need on wedding day. Once ceremony time arrives, I need to make sure we have the full wedding party hidden away, and also get those last minute arrivals to take a seat. Then we need to get the processional started. And from there it just flows from one thing to the next: social hour, call to seating, grand entrance, dinner time, speeches, cake, dance, late night snack, and last call. And before you know it, memories have been made, and all the months of work put into the wedding are done and you have a very happy (and usually very tired) married couple.
Q: What should a couple searching for their wedding venue know?
A: The first thing to establish is your budget. You don’t want to fall in love with a place, and then discover you can’t afford it. Also, decide what your number one priority is in your wedding venue. If you have to have your ceremony outdoors, don’t tour venues that don’t have an outdoor option.
Q: How far in advance should a couple book with you?
A: One year in advance, but we also do weddings with just a few month’s notice!
Q: What is the biggest crowd-pleaser at your venue?
A: The floor-to-ceiling windows looking out on our golf course.
Q: What are your other hobbies and passions besides creating beautiful wedding days?
A: I love doing things with my friends and family. I also am a huge Disney lover.
Q: What is the history behind your venue?
A: It was opened in 2018 to kick off the Super Bowl!
LIGHTNING ROUND!
Q: Do you have any favorite podcasts?
A: Normal Gossip with Kelsey McKinney
Q: Who’s your most played artist on your streaming service?
A: Luke Combs
Q: What was your latest impulse buy?
A: A chicken lamp for my desk!
Q: Mountains or Beach?
A: Beach
Q: Go-to cocktail (or mocktail)?
A: Malibu and Coke
Q: When you were little, what did you want to be when you grew up?
A: A Wedding Planner!
Q: You’re at brunch. Are you going for something sweet or savory?
A: Sweet
Q: Go-to comfort food?
A: Butter noodles
Q: Duck Duck Grey Duck or Duck Duck Goose?
A: Duck Duck Grey Duck
