PRINCE HARRY OF WALES TO MARRY AMERICAN ACTRESS MEGHAN MARKLE
After a 16-month whirlwind romance, Prince Harry of Wales and Meghan Markle, known for her role in the American TV show Suits, have announced their engagement. The royal wedding will take place in May of 2018 at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle unlike Prince William and Catherine Middleton – The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge who married in Westminster Abbey as Prince William is much higher in succession to the throne.
The royal couple held their photo-op in the Sunken Gardens at Kensington Palace, which was one of Diana, Princess of Wales favorite places. When asked by the press how they feel, Harry replied: “Thrilled.” Very glad it’s not raining!” Markle then added: “So happy.”
In the interview filmed later with the BBC Prince Harry described the engagement ring he designed for Meghan, which was a gold band with two stones, one on each side of the ring’s center stone, which are from Princess Diana’s collection. The shimmering center stone is from Botswana, where the couple traveled in August. Designing the engagement ring is not new to the royal family as The Queen’s engagement ring is a diamond from Prince Philip’s mothers’ tiara.

Meghan will be known as Her Royal Highness Princess Henry of Wales, using her husband’s name — while any children born to the couple will be a lord or lady, not a prince or princess. However, the 36-year-old actress won’t be known as Princess Meghan. This is because due to rules governing the British crown, only those born into the royal family can use the title Prince or Princess, followed by their first name. Harry’s mother Diana was given the title Princess of Wales – a courtesy title held by the wife of the Prince of Wales – but she was never formally referred to as Princess Diana for the same reason. As rumors start to fly, the word is the title will be the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, but only the Queen knows as she will bestow this tile on their wedding day.
There will be no day off as the Government has stated there are “no plans” for a Bank Holiday, known as a National Holiday in the United States on the day of Prince Harry’s wedding to Meghan Markle. This is unlike when Catherine and William were married in April 2011, when the public were treated to a one-off bank holiday.
As the announcement came today, The Queen will be paying for the royal wedding and we will be there covering the detailed plans up to the big day so stay tuned.
