With everything going virtual right now, even all of the pre-wedding celebrations have joined the Zoom bandwagon. Sure, there’s nothing like in-person socialization, but with these tips and a bit of planning ahead, you’ll see, your virtual bridal showers and bachelorette parties can be really fun.
Check Your Connection
Check your Zoom connection, or whatever platform you’re using, ahead of time. Also note that by making your celebration virtual, you’re allowing guests to join that might not have originally been there. Out-of-town aunts, cousins in college far away, grandparents who can’t travel, all of these family members can now join in on the fun. Just do a trial run with a close friend or two before the event to make sure your computer is ready for the celebration.
Have Gifts Shipped Ahead of Time
Guests can have gifts shipped to the bride or couple of honor before the shower. Then the bride or couple can open gifts during the Zoom shower, live with all guests able to see the reaction of the guest(s) of honor. This is one of the aspects of an old-school shower that can easily adapt to the virtual style, so long as everyone sends the gifts ahead of time.
Wedding Guys Wisdom: When sending out the E-vite, specify a date when the gifts should get to the couple of honor, just so everyone is on the same page (and it lights a fire under those procrastinators you might have invited.)
And we’ve got some great out-of-the-box ideas for shower gifts if you want something stylish, fun and unique.
Activities for a Virtual Shower or Bachelorette
Here are some fun activities for virtual bridal showers and bachelorette parties than can still happen in a virtual setting:
1) A VIRTUAL WORKOUT CLASS
If the person of honor for your celebration is a fitness fan, there are many ways to incorporate this into virtual bridal showers or bachelorette parties. You can arrange a private class with someone from his or her local gym, or (and this take a little planning) you can find when classes are offering free sessions, you just need to time them with your party.
Here are some workouts you can look into:
- Barry’s Bootcamp has sessions on Instagram twice daily.
- Pure Barre also has live streams, so check out their website for more info.
- 305 Fitness, has a whole section of their website now dedicated to working out at home, and their classes are super fun and would make for a great bachelorette or shower activity. (If you mind a few F-bombs, this might not be the class for you, but if you’re looking for a class with the latest music re-mixes and the feeling like you and your girlfriends just hit the dance club, this is a great option).
2) A VIRTUAL COOKING CLASS
If the bride or couple of honor are foodies, there are so many sweet and savory options in the culinary world offering classes through their Instagram pages that you can watch and actively participate in. From Christina Tosi of Milk Bar fame to Massimo Bottura of Michelin-star restaurant Osteria Francescana in Italy, check out their options so you have the ingredients you need and then have a great time. If time allows, you can all enjoy your creations afterward.
3) VIRTUAL TRIVIA
This is one that will take some planning, but it’s a lot of fun. See who in the group knows the bride the best. Ask everyone to submit an interesting fact about the bride before the event, and then compile them and ask the group all of the questions during the party. Examples include: what is the bride’s sorority nickname? What sports did the bride play in high school? Then you can see who knows the most, and that person wins a prize at the end.
